Why Do We Follow Jesus Christ

Why Do We Follow Jesus Christ?

Not everyone follows or wants to follow God. Remember, dear friends, there was a rebellion in heaven by Satan and his fallen angels, who no longer wanted to follow God. This rebellion has continued for thousands of years and continues today on Planet Earth. Our all-powerful God could have stopped the rebellion then and He has the power and authority to stop it now. God chose not to! Simply and profoundly put, our Mighty God does not want slaves, He wants followers. As a follower of God, I may, like the great Apostles, choose to be a slave but it’s our choice. This is our choice driven by our great unyielding love for our Savior. So, why did Satan and his fallen angels decide to rebel against God, a God of love? Simply put, Satan did not want to just accept his position as “the anointed Cherub” in all his grandeur. (See Ezekiel 28:13-15). In his pride he wanted much more. The Bible says, “How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! … For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God … I will be like the most High” (Isaiah 14:12-14). The true hallmarks of Satan are his nauseating pride and his outrageous lies. Let’s be very clear Satan is still in rebellion against God, even now upon Planet Earth, to usurp the worship of God!

This rebellion by Satan is in full swing because he knows that his time is short. His greatest desire is to have the worship and adoration of all humanity but especially from those who claim to be Christian. He will lie, cheat, and make empty promises to get their worshipful praise. He longs to hear their chants that proclaim, “We love you” or “Who is like unto the beast? Who is able to make war with him?” He will do all that he can to win the favor and adoration of God’s holy people and the nation of Israel. He will boast greatly of his many accomplishments caused in large part by overturning the many laws and regulations that keep big business in check. Although he may surround himself with Christians, he will not follow their God in humility speaking only the truth. If Satan is really at work in our day, then only weak, unintelligent, and godless people will be put forth as his competitors. There will be no serious thought about the sustainability of the planet. Satan will rejoice at the destruction of the planet as she burns and floods herself into oblivion. Creating peace among the nations is only an illusion. The Bible says, “For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape” (I Thessalonians 5:3).

So, my dear children, how do we stand against this Satanic rebellion that’s against God and everything holy? Let me say very clearly, any frontal attack will fail miserably, just as assuredly as this article will fall on many deaf ears. No, what’s needed is returning to our Savior’s plan. This is a plan that’s worked for over two thousand years, showing people the great wonders of following God through His Son, Jesus Christ. This is the Last Days! Although the door to Eternal Life is closing quickly, I believe we still have an opportunity to show people how to follow God and experience their wondrous new life in Christ. Let me give you just a few reasons why we chose to follow God. First and foremost, we believe and am confident that Christ’s death on the Cross paid for all of our sins, past, present, and future. Once we believe and turn from our sins, known as repentance, agreeing to never fall into the same sin, then God no longer remembers the sin. We have a clean slate, we are forgiven. Now God can go to work in our life as a believer. We believe that Jesus Christ rose from the dead to give us a new life in Christ. This faith opens the door to heaven and the indwelling Spirit to come and dwell with us; to teach us all things.

Now for the second reason we follow God through Jesus Christ. He promises to make us into a new creation. The Bible says, “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new” (II Corinthians 5:17). This is a completely different way of thinking for the modern world. Their sciences have taught them that we are a compilation of all our past experiences that define who we are. Hundreds of years have been spent developing the art of behavior modification through endless counseling and approved drug therapy, which have never been proven to work. All of these accepted teachings, also taught in our schools, are a complete contradiction of God’s masterful plan for our new life in Christ. We believe in a new life where old things truly pass away. We believe in the transformation. We believe that the indwelling Spirit is helping us, moment by moment, to put off the old life and to put on the new life in Christ, making us true followers of Jesus Christ. We actually see this work of transformation taking place in our lives by producing spiritual fruit, largely unattainable by the fallen world (See Galatians 5:22-23). We chose to follow God who has given us a new bountiful life in Christ. Every day is a new day! But that’s not all.

We follow God because the indwelling Spirit comes bearing gifts of the Spirit. These are miraculous gifts to equip us for our work in the Kingdom of God. Every believer is given his own gifts, some permanent and some temporary for only when the need arises. I have personally been given the temporary gift of healing on one occasion and the gift of casting out an evil spirit on another. We follow God through Christ for this amazing opportunity to be used in His Kingdom work. I believe my permanent gifts are preaching, teaching, and counseling all to the glory of God. Let me stress that every follower has their own gifts that must be used. Although we may be a bit timid and even afraid to step out in faith to use our gifts, God will give us confidence with great boldness. Oh, what tremendous joy it is to participate in His kingdom work by utilizing your own unique Spiritual gifts with great power. We soon discover that every believer is needed in the Kingdom to help others to become all that God wants them to be. We follow God because we fit perfectly into the fellowship of believers as the true Church where everyone is needed for the common good. What a tremendous joy it is to be a part of something so wonderfully unique.

Finally, as followers of God, we don’t have much interest in political affairs. So, we simply render unto Cesar the things due to Cesar though the obedience of their laws that don’t conflict with God’s law (See Matthew 22:21). As followers of God, we render unto God the things due to God, such as, raising our children to fear and obey God, which is nearly impossible if we send them to public school. We have observed what public education has done for our young people and the direction of this county. We render unto God by being obedient to all of His beautiful commandments. We stand against a culture that condones homosexuality, the transgender, abortion, psychiatric counseling, the use of mind-altering drugs, and the many other perversions of a world gone mad. No, our real interest is in spending time with God in the Spirit through long periods of silence and solitude learning how to listen to His still small voice. Therein is the amazing joy and peace of following Christ. The greatest joy, however, is walking in God’s love by allowing His love to flow through us to others. We pray daily, “Thy Kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven” (Matthew 6:10). Let’s make the Church great again! This is our true hope for the world, which neither political party can produce. Remember dear children, they along with the rest of the world leaders are in total rebellion against God, even if they tell you otherwise. Please keep your eyes wide open!
