The Truth Will Set You Free

The world is in awful bondage and there is nothing they can do about it. They are in bondage to their old sin nature. It continually pulls them down causing them to do or say the very thing they don’t … want. There is the agony of saying the wrong thing and unable to take it back. How many times have you wished you could have done otherwise? Captivity of the flesh runs deep. You cast out an unwanted thought and it comes right back again plaguing your mind with even more evil thoughts. It is a constant harassment that can cause many to follow these unwanted thoughts and the result is disastrous! Sinful actions that hurt others always have their reciprocal effect by increasing one’s own pain. The pain is so great that many follow the world, attempting to solve their problem by building their self-esteem. This only makes matters worse by tightening the grip of the old sin nature and driving them into deeper bondage. Captivity to the old sin nature is real and has caused a great deal of pain and suffering in the world. No amount of Psychological counseling or psychotropic drugs will deliver you from your captivity. No other world religion or philosophy of man will free you from your pain. “What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body of death?” (Romans 7:24)

The good news is that Jesus Christ came to set the captives free by proclaiming the truth. Only the truth will set you free! The truth is simple, but profound. The truth is so simple that most of the world has rejected it as foolishness or complicated it to the point of making it of non-effect.  The Muslim religion, for example, claims to have the truth yet their followers remain in captivity to the old sin nature made worse by a life of endless teachings to accept their doctrine of war and hate. The outcome is horrific with honor killings, stoning women in public and senseless suicide bombings. They too line up at the counselor’s office, yet their pain remains strengthening their imprisonment to the old sin nature. All their outward acts of piety cannot change the fact that evil keeps them in bondage and a slave to the devil. But before we pass judgment, how many so called Christians also remain in bondage to the old sin nature by attempting to gain freedom through their outward acts of piety and following the advice of the world’s counselors. Dear friends, as we fast approach the end of days it’s absolutely essential to not only return to the truth, but to love the truth and so be saved. Our unwillingness to do so will put us in company with the rest of the unbelieving world to accept the lie and be swept away by the “powerful delusion” sent by God. (See II Thessalonians 2:11)

So what is the truth?  The truth is that God is transforming us from one degree of glory to another into the perfect image of His Son. He is changing us from the inside out one step at a time to be the perfect man for which we were originally created to be. “Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect” (Matthew 5:48). We were never created to be gods which is the lie of the devil. The Roman emperors thought they were gods and demanded the worship of other men. Even Hitler demanded allegiance from every citizen as if he were some kind of god. The Antichrist will speak the same lie that every man can become like god, by becoming their own god. Many religious cults from Mormonism to Hinduism believe that they will evolve into gods and therefore reject the truth that we are mere men. Jesus Christ came to show us the way to perfection, to become the perfect man in Christ, but nothing more.

The rise of atheism in the world, with the jettison of the old religions, has many believing that they too can become the perfect man or even gods. They proudly proclaim that, “God is in every man!” One wonders if this was the mystery of lawlessness that the Apostle Paul referred to in the letter to the Thessalonians. Man has become a law unto himself by making himself into his own little god, with or without religion. Yet the methodologies remain the same to fashion man into perfection without following the truth. Simply put the truth is we can’t, but He can. All we can do is die to self by picking up our cross and following Christ. The truth is only by dying with Christ can we be raised with Christ as a new creation where old things pass way. We are no longer held in bondage to the old sin nature but set free, free at last! To love the truth is to follow the truth and to openly and forcefully reject the world’s teaching and counsel. To love the truth is to believe and trust in God to make you into a new creation without the help of the world’s counselors. It believes as Christ was raised from the grave we too can have a new life in Him if we take up our cross and follow Him. The choice is always the same; we either follow Christ and His teachings or we follow the world in their lie. If the world follows the lie and become their own little gods (worshiping self) then how can they disagree with the Antichrist who also makes the same claim to be God?
