The Gospel of Peace

Today’s article continues an eight week series on the armor of God. A very important part of being prepared spiritually for the “End Times” is being dressed in and utilizing the whole armor of God for Satan will be extremely powerful and even more deceptive because he knows that his time is short. Equipping your feet in preparation for the gospel of peace is the next piece of armor to be put on by the Christian soldier. In the First Century when this was first penned by the Apostle Paul without the use of feet to carry man to the furthest parts of the Roman Empire the Gospel of Jesus Christ would have never left Jerusalem. Clearly those hoping to vanquish the powers of the enemy needed to carry the Gospel into hostile lands exercising the use of their feet. Along with the feet came the whole person not just sharing empty words, but powerful words made manifest through their holy demeanor. Their body language came aglow through the Holy Spirit, as their spiritual fruit gloriously ripened and their loving actions were demonstrated. In a dark and callous world it was a breath of fresh air for those who were suffocating under the weight of confusion caused by the devil. Although, we live in a different world were the gospel can be shared over cyberspace, closed circuit TV, and print media it will never truly take the place of a face to face encounter, where people can not only hear the gospel presentation, but observe it in the life of the one delivering it.

Don’t think for a moment that this part of the amour is only meant for preachers of the gospel for we have all been called to share the hope that we have in us. If we have our feet shod in preparation for the gospel of peace then we are always ready to share that hope. Years ago while briefly working in a secular job after attending seminary it was always a joy to be approached by fellow employees and asked what made me so different, giving me an open door to share my hope in Jesus Christ. If we are truly living for Christ people will know. They will want to know, what makes you the way you are. Dear friend, there will always be an open door for sharing, if you are looking for it. Every Christian has a personal testimony that should be shared when telling others about the hope you have. Again, the Apostle Paul gives us a great example in the Bible. You always start with what your life was like before you came to know Christ personally, then you move on to how you came to know Him, then lastly you tell how wonderfully Christ has changed your life. The personal testimony opens the door so they can hear the truth of the gospel – the Gospel of Peace. How Jesus Christ died on the Cross taking all of our sins on Him allowing us to receive forgiveness which opens up a relationship with His Father in Heaven. Proclaiming the simple gospel and then leading them to repent of their sins and putting their trust in Jesus Christ opens up a new life for them. As the Angles in heaven sing praises to God for a new believer in Christ it delivers a telling blow to the enemy.

This gospel of peace is not tolerance. It is not just the cessation of hostility between factions or other world religions. It is, however, peace between man and God. Those taken captive by the devil must be brought to the foot of the Cross so that they can see their horrid condition. The light of God’s glory must illuminate their absolute wretchedness and inability to escape their sinful nature. They must feel the raging war within as God’s hand rest heavy upon the unbeliever so that the gospel of peace can be presented as the only remedy for their pitiful state. Think about all the world religions and even the cults and heresies in the Christian religion that have no real peace between their adherents and God. What a tragedy it is to see other world religions worship and serve their gods but having no peace with the one true God. So to take our stand against the enemy, we must be willing to go anywhere and everywhere to share this gospel of peace. It is up to the Christian soldier to show them the way out of captivity and back to safety and into the loving hands of the one true God—the God of Peace.

Another wile of the devil is to relax the exclusiveness of Christianity, for which the gospel of peace overcomes through its proclamation. Tolerance has run rampant in the church to such a degree that a dialogue has been opened between Christianity and other world religions. Church leaders claim that this is done for the sake of peace. What a tragedy! There is no peace because the only true peace that man can hope for is peace with the one true God. Furthermore, this must take place first prior to any real lasting peace between men. To accept tolerance for the sake of peace will deny the exclusiveness of Christianity and will play into the hands of the devil. Why does it play into the hands of the devil? It does so because it sends a message to all other world religions that their belief is valid. It sends a message that we are all standing on level ground and that their path to God is just as valid as our path. To do so denies Christ who said that there is only one way to the Father and all must come through Him, who is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. Friends, this is the gospel of peace that all must come through Christ to the Father to find lasting peace.

The Gospel of Peace is the first offensive weapon to be used by the Christian soldier in his fight against the enemy. In our struggle against the devil, we are sent into enemy territory to preach release to the captives. Christians can no longer sit in their comfortable pews and in their comfortable churches and ignore those who have been captured by the devil to do his will. We must traverse the globe—often times behind enemy lines—to proclaim the gospel of peace to those who are perishing. Therefore, to resist the devil and to stand firm against the enemy, we as Christian soldiers must proclaim this gospel to the ends of the earth. As Christians, we are called to have a new world view concerning those who have been captured by the devil. Behind every other world religion stands the devil himself, leading them around by the nose, causing them to do his evil bidding by creating chaos, confusion, and religious persecution. Don’t think for a moment that the devil is not behind those who are introducing the doctrine of tolerance between Christianity and other world religions. Don’t think for a moment that the devil is not behind the current administration welcoming all Muslims as brothers and telling Christians that they need to make room in their faith.

Let’s be clear that Satan and his henchmen will not take kindly to those who make inroads into his kingdom, rescuing those who have been taken captive. There may be stumbling blocks along the way and even persecution, but the joy of rescuing those who are perishing will greatly outweigh the struggle. Furthermore, there is great strength and spiritual growth that comes from sharing the gospel of peace. To share the gospel of peace in the enemy’s territory must not be done in our own strength but only in the strength of the Lord. He will give you the boldness and confidence through our faith in Him to proclaim it as we should as good news—the best news man has ever heard.
