The Helmet of Salvation

Today’s article continues an eight week series on the armor of God. A very important part of being prepared spiritually for the “End Times” is being dressed in and utilizing the whole armor of God for Satan will be extremely powerful and even more deceptive because he knows that his time is short. The next piece of armor to be put on by the Christian soldier is the helmet of salvation. If the devil cannot discourage you with doubt concerning your mission, then he will attack your very salvation. If he can get you to question the assurance of your salvation, then he has stopped you dead in your tracks. You will precede no further because your eyes are now back on self questioning your own salvation. The devil has silenced many Christians this way. Not only have they been silenced, but their spiritual growth has been stunted, and in many respects the transformation process has been halted. Dear friend, you must not let the old devil knock off the helmet of your salvation. Some Christians argue against the assurance of salvation because of what they see in nominal Christians. They question how a person can claim to be saved and act like the devil. They question the assurance of their salvation because they see no spiritual fruit. Indeed, some people do have false assurance because they are not really saved. They may publicly ask Jesus Christ to come into their heart with great joy, join a church, and be baptized. But they are like the ones in the parable told by our Lord where some quickly fell away when trouble or persecution came. There are others who hear the Word but do nothing with it because the worries of this life and deceitfulness of wealth choke it, making it unfruitful (see Matthew 13:21-22). Clearly these people are not Christians, and many of them rest under a false assurance of salvation. Continue reading The Helmet of Salvation

The Shield of Faith

Today’s article continues an eight week series on the armor of God. A very important part of being prepared spiritually for the “End Times” is being dressed in and utilizing the whole armor of God for Satan will be extremely powerful and even more deceptive because he knows that his time is short. The shield of faith is the next piece of armor to be put on by the Christian soldier. As the Christian soldier goes deep into enemy territory to rescue the perishing the devil will hurl a volley of flaming arrows to discourage you in your pursuit. Upon receiving one of his arrows, you may experience strong emotions of fear, emptiness, aloneness, and doubt that comes in an instant when you least expect it, and then your spirit cries out in anguish begging for someone to listen to your plight. These arrows are all the more destructive in power. They have the ability to pierce and seriously wound the soldier. When the piercing arrows of depression, anger, and fear are filling the air, we must learn to take refuge behind the shield of faith (see Proverbs 30:5).  As we come together as believers, we can link our faith-shields to ward off the devil’s darts. Crisis Coming Hope Ascending

Crisis coming has been the regular diet for most Christians. I have personally never witnessed a time when the Christian community has been so caught up in the prophetic looking for every little sign and the demon behind every rock. Make no mistake, I too have written considerably about the things to come, warning God’s children, giving commentary on world events, and standing against the abuses of our age. On the other hand, I have also tried to balance it with godly counsel on how to stand firm and not lose hope. I have discovered that the Bible does the same, proclaiming the whole blessed truth giving much encouragement to God’s children who have in times past and in the present have had to deal with the most difficult of circumstances. There is nothing new under the sun. Just taking a cursory look in the past two thousand years of church history one does not miss the many times of persecution against God’s beloved children who stood their ground unwilling to waver from His magnificent truth. These true saints from the past and the present stood their ground not on all the signs that they had gathered or their knowledge of things to come, but on the pure teachings of God’s Word concerning the hope held out to every believer. Dear friend, do you have this kind of hope that will hold you secure during the coming crisis? Continue reading Crisis Coming Hope Ascending

Striking a Perfect Balance

Striking the Perfect BalanceEverywhere you look there are extremes in the faith. On one hand some Christians are ready to stand on their preconceived principles of their faith with no regard for the other person whom they are attacking. In their aggressiveness they often times make something out of nothing rejecting those who don’t fall in line. They so concentrate on the non-essentials of our faith that you can’t help from wondering if they are really saved in the first place. But then on the other hand there are many other Christians who are so weak in their faith that they are very gullible and accept as truth whatever is presented to them. Many of these later folks say, “Let’s just focus on loving one another and all will be fine.” As these two groups bounce off one another neither group advances in their faith, achieving what God desires, but they typically remain as mere infants blown about by every wind of doctrine, unable to stand firm.
