Becoming More Like Christ

Are you becoming more like Christ daily? I hope so because only the mature in Christ will stand firm during the coming apocalypse. Unfortunately, most are becoming more like the world, or they are becoming more like the lukewarm church. The world is sinking daily into its sins. Laws are being passed to give them the liberty to do whatever vain imagination enters into their perverse minds. Every sin is justified through their freedom of expression or their freedom of speech. Every sin is justified by the majority decision of those in their democracy. Every sin is justified by nullifying God’s beautiful commandments through misguided theology or its rejection in the public domain. Every sin is justified because modern man says we are living in a new world and the old laws are no longer relevant. They proudly say, “If it’s not breaking one of our laws, then it must be accepted by all.” So, goes the thinking of the contemporary world. They proclaim loudly, “Don’t question my behavior or my right to think whatever I want even if leads to tragic consequences for others.” One would need to stand outside of time itself to recognize how far the world has sunk into depravity. One step at a time the entire world has rejected God’s laws of righteousness.

Well, in the world they can say and do whatever they want, but the Christian is no longer living in the world. Remember, the moment we accepted Christ as both Savior and Lord, then our citizenship was in heaven. Here is the problem with modern man, he attempts to live in the Kingdom and the world at the same time producing the lukewarm church. Although some lukewarm Christians have good intentions, they continue to follow the world in their thinking and behavior. They are still attracted to many of the same things that the world is attracted to, even adjusting their theology to justify their behavior and their thinking. One of the biggest adjustments to their biblical theology is their outright rejection of God’s laws and ordinances. They have tricked their mind into believing that Christ somehow delivered them from the law and their striving for holiness is no longer necessary. They have adopted the theology that all of the laws and directives in the New Testament are only holy suggestions. Of course, this way of thinking has allowed them to walk in the world and the Kingdom at the same time. Clearly, the hot water of the Kingdom and the cold water of the world produces lukewarm water, and in their case lukewarm Christians.

To grow up in Christ, we must come fully into the Kingdom. This cannot be done through osmosis or just saying I believe and waiting for it to magically happen. It takes a lot of hard work. The Bible says, “Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling” (Philippians 2:12). We can and will show you how to work out your own salvation, which the Apostle Paul did throughout all of his writings, but it is up to you to do the work. For most, it will be the hardest thing that they have ever done, but it’s well worth the journey. There is no greater joy than to successfully enter the Kingdom fully. There is no greater joy than to walk and talk with your Creator every moment of every day. So, let’s roll up our sleeves and get to work. The Bible explicitly ties obedience to working out your own salvation. Quite frankly, obedience is not easy! It’s not easy because every person living on planet earth has, what the Bible refers to as the old sin nature. We all have the natural propensity to sin. So, our first step in obedience is learning what we must obey.

Therefore, every new believer in Christ must discover every command that has been given to us in the Bible. There are over 117 commandments in the New Testament alone. The good news is we are not required to do this all at once, although we must allow the Holy Spirit to direct us step by step to discover each command and apply it to our lives through obedience. In the beginning of my pilgrimage, I would read the Bible until I landed upon a command that brought warming to my heart or a conviction from the Holy Spirit that that command must be followed or applied to my life. There is more good news. When the Holy Spirit convicts you to obey this newly discovered command, then He also writes it on your heart to be remembered always. We soon discover that we are not in this work alone. The indwelling Spirit will remind you of these commands as long as we don’t ignore Him. The Bible says, “And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption” (Ephesians 4:30). When we listen to the Holy Spirit’s conviction, without turning a deaf ear, then we will learn how to be obedient to that specific command. When we do this consistently, with one command after another, then we will be working out our own salvation to become more like Jesus Christ. This is our goal to be like Christ. Our Savior never sinned.

What we have seen thus far is the commandments convict us that we need to stop our bad behavior. This exercise is what I refer to as, “overcoming the old sin nature.” But there is one more thing needed to be successful in overcoming the old sin nature or dying to self. We need the positive side to our spiritual growth. We must stop committing the trespass, but we must now put something in the place of it. We must put on Christ. This part is also difficult, but it is far more enjoyable. This is learning the positive side of your Christian walk in the world but not of the world. As you read your Bible you will soon discover the things that you should be doing. Yes, these too must be obeyed. Now, here is the beauty of it, for every negative thing you stop doing you must immediately start doing the positive thing to put in the place of the negative. For example, if you discover from the Bible that you can’t look at a woman in a way that would undress her or use her for your selfish pleasure, then you stop it. Until you continue with the positive, then you will not be successful in your obedience. We must put the positive in place of the negative. What is the positive? The Bible says we should treat older women as mothers and younger women as sisters in all purity (see I Timothy 5:2). Whether younger or older we treat them with respect in all purity of thought. This is the positive side of the command. We put off the old man and put on the new man in-Christ. When we do, every time we do it, we grow up in Christ.

Finally, as we grow up in Christ through obedience, then we become more like Christ. Dear children, please don’t follow the legalist and just put off the old life, but also put on the new life in-Christ. Yes, it will feel a bit strange in the beginning because you are clearly out of your comfort zone. This is not playing church. It is following Christ through the indwelling Spirit. It is stepping out in faith doing things you never thought possible. As we grow ever closer to the end, it will be essential to have Christian maturity, which will only happen if you have been obediently growing up in Christ. My heart desires to see every believer standing firm in these perilous times. As believers who are growing up in Christ every day, then it becomes much easier to face the changing world, a world that’s growing more evil every day. As they strike out against you, then you may need to withdraw, you may need to completely come out from among them and be separate. This will do two things. It will allow you to continue your growth in Christ unhindered and secondly, it will send a clear message to the people in the world that their unrighteous behavior is totally unacceptable. The Bible says, “And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them” (Ephesians 5:11). Dear children, become more like Christ so that you can stand firm in the coming days.

Why Do Bad Things Happen?

The question most asked, even by professed followers of Christ is, “Why do bad things happen to me?” That’s a great question. It is a question that’s been asked since the beginning of time. It is a question that has haunted humanity since the dawn of history. If you seriously want to know the answer, keep reading. This is a question that must be brought before the Lord in deep prayer and meditation, taking time to listen to His every word. We live in a day where the age-old understanding of fate has resurfaced, especially among the unbelievers. Unbelievers now espouse their senseless rhetoric, “That things just happen” solidifying their belief in fate. This is a belief that everything that happens is beyond our control, contrary to what we do or don’t do; if we are bad or good it makes no difference to the outcome. Although this kind of thinking may help them to accept the onslaught of bad things happening to them, it doesn’t answer the question. It only delays the inevitable, which often leads to stress, psychological trauma, mental illnesses, or something far worse, eternal separation from God.

Let’s start at the beginning. Why are so many professed believers in our day struggling with stress, agitation, anger, aggression, or any other classified psychological problems? These problems can lead to a host of other problems, such as loss of productivity, the ability to manage one’s time, and decision making that’s irrational. It can also lead to depression causing them to withdraw from the real world. Although many of these new problems may seem like the underlying problem, they are not. Although the professionals of psychology would agree and be happy to schedule counseling or drug therapy, we must dig much deeper to discover the real underlying problem that’s causing your difficulties. We must dig deeper to discover what’s causing you to experience one tragic circumstance after another. I must tell you; I have great sympathy and pity for these poor souls. Simply put they are not living the life that Christ promised them when He came to earth to show humanity a new Way. They are not living the bountiful life full of wondrous joy and the peace that defies understanding. They are not experiencing a brand-new life in Christ that’s getting better every day. Whatever happened to their new life in Christ?

What’s even sadder about these professed believers is some have a real heart for helping others, especially among their own family members, but they just don’t seem to have the time, the strength, or the determination to follow through with their promises or intentions. Whatever happened to the new life in Christ where their joy and peace are not affected by the unrelenting problems that are weighing so heavily upon them, day after day? We must dig much deeper. When we do, we are confronted with a word that has all but escaped the dictionary of modern humanity. It is a word that most don’t want to talk about. We have noticed that professional counselors don’t ever mention the word. We have observed that we are hearing it far less from the pulpits in the modern church. I hope that you are sitting down. The word is sin. This little three-letter word is at the root of most of your problems. I will go so far as to say that sin is at the very root of the world’s problems. The problem with sin is that it’s in our nature to sin. This is referred to as the old sin nature. Until we get a handle on the old sin nature, we will never experience the continuous joy and peace of our new life in Christ.

The good news is that Jesus Christ came to show us the Way. He came to show us how to overcome the old sin nature, one step at a time, through faith. Before we talk about this good news, let’s digress a bit and ask the question, how can this old sin nature cause us so many problems, to experience one calamity after another. There are many sins, which any society can refer to as a transgression against their laws, which you will be held accountable by some form of unpleasant punishment. Today, we want to talk about a higher law or laws that you will also be held accountable to by an all-powerful God, the God of creation. Make no mistake, God hears and sees everything. Unlike man, God does not forget nor can He be fooled by your double talk or outrageous lies. He will not be fooled by your deniability. Don’t forget that the Bible says, “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23). We all have the old sin nature and the propensity to sin. This is the first step in overcoming the old sin nature, to openly admit that you are a sinner, and if you are honest, then you will admit that you have sinned every day. If you cannot admit that, then you need to take a long hard look at God’s Law, that not only deals with your actions but with your every thought.

Do you think that God can’t see your outburst of anger? Do you think that God can’t see your outrageous lies? Do you think God cannot see your pride? Do you think God can’t see your lust or sexual immorality? No, God sees it all, along with your every thought. The Bible is very clear that a man will reap what he has sown (see Galatians 6:8). Don’t think for a minute that things just happen, that’s fate. With God, nothing happens by accident. If you are not following the Way, then you will be disciplined by a loving God (see Hebrews 12:6-7). Often God will discipline His children by letting them go to experience the works of their own hands. God will also let them go by withdrawing His divine protection allowing them to reap the full consequences of their sin. As an example, let’s just look at the one sin that God hates the most, lying. The Bible says, “Lying lips are abomination to the LORD: but they that deal truly are his delight” (Proverbs 12:22). Think about this dear friend the next time you say you are going to do something, and then don’t do it, and worse yet, say you never said it. Shockingly, when you lie to another, then you are also lying to God. A man will reap what he has sown. He will reap the consequences of his every sin.

Now, let’s go deeper to discover the good news. How can we overcome the old sin nature? If you are a professed believer, then you have already taken the first step in believing that Jesus Christ, the Son of God, took your place on the Cross to pay for all sins past, present, and future. That cleared the way to a new life in Christ through faith. Although this is the greatest miracle to be made into a new creation, where old things truly pass away, we still need to follow the Way in overcoming the old sin nature. If you don’t follow the Way, then nothing much will change after the initial glow of believing in Christ wears off. That’s where most professed believers are today allowing the old sin nature to rule their life making them a target for Satan and the powers of darkness. This alone has caused a boom at the counselor’s office even among professed Christians, which has caused the church to raise up their own counselors following the methodology of the world’s counselors. We can, through the power of Christ, put off the old life of sin and misery, and to put on the new life in Christ, filled with incredible joy and amazing peace. We have the power to overcome the old sin nature.

So, how can we be successful in overcoming the old sin nature? Here is the key, we must read the anointed Word of God, the Bible, and discover the things we should not be doing or thinking, replacing them with thoughts and actions that are in accord with His Word. The Bible gives us some wonderful examples of putting off the old life and putting on the new life in Christ (carefully read Ephesians 4:19-32). When you do this, then you will discover that you are growing up in Christ from one degree of glory to another (see II Corinthians 3:18). If you are not growing up in Christ then you are still giving in to the old sin nature and continuing to reap all the horrible consequences of walking in the old life, the old sin nature. Now, you can say, I know why bad things are always happening to me. Won’t you start today, dear Christian, putting off the old life and putting on the new life in Christ? Then you will begin your spiritual journey, growing from one degree of glory to another. Spiritual growth must happen daily to overcome the old sin nature. Are you growing today

What is Causing the Unimaginable Chaos?

We spoke briefly about the chaos affecting humanity on my latest News Brief, today we will look at what’s causing it to become the worse thing to ever fall upon humanity. Chaos engenders an image of things totally out of control, where stark raving madness and the walking dead barely scratch the surface of uncovering the complete picture. Law and order will be exchanged for complete lawlessness, not only in the streets but behind nearly every door. Love for one’s neighbors will be exchanged for explosive outrage doing the unimaginable, without a hint of remorse. Heated rhetoric will be exchanged for plotting demonically inspired retaliation beyond one’s own sensibilities. Sanity will be exchanged for bouts of insanity inflicting injury to others and to oneself. All of the psychological disorders known to self-righteous man will run rampant through all of humanity from the deepest pit of depression to the many crying bouts of anxiety. As more drugs are legalized to calm the masses the massive addiction doesn’t curb the tide of madness. Even the handing out of free money will not stop the unimaginable chaos. So, let’s follow God’s prophetic voice from ages past to understand what’s causing the chaos. Continue reading What is Causing the Unimaginable Chaos?
