In The Blink of an Eye

If you lived for 125 years, compared to eternity that would only be in the blink of an eye. Unfortunately, most live far less than that because of the increase in new diseases, viruses, and other health-related issues. Some have their life ended early because of lawlessness, immorality, and abortion. Others enter death early because of wars, famines, and increasing so-called natural disasters or the consequences of their sins. Furthermore, over 1 million people die of car accidents every year globally; their lives too have changed in the blink of an eye. We are all dying. Our life span on planet Earth is truly in the blink of an eye compared to eternity. Because of the original sin in the Garden of Eden, then we will all die (Genesis 3). While death is inevitable, most try to live their lives to the fullest with no thought of their eventual demise. On the other hand, we can plan for everlasting life now and experience a foretaste of heaven with a joy that’s beyond description. We have all been given a choice to pass on to eternal bliss in the presence of a loving God or to spend eternity separated from God in the fires of hell, which is conditioned on how we respond to the call from heaven. This is one call you don’t want to miss.

Unfortunately, most will miss the call. They will literally run from the good news or be put off by our quest for righteousness in Christ. They simply do not want to give up their beliefs and their so-called freedom to do whatever pleases them. They no longer want to struggle against the constant bombardment of evil thoughts brought on by the powers of darkness. So, they give in to their thoughts allowing it to consume them. Many have already been captured by the spirit of Antichrist that justifies their immoral behavior leading them into a socially accepted life of gross immorality. They have also been led astray to trust in all the new scientific beliefs that have explained away God’s beautiful creation and His order of things. They are being led to trust in Artificial Intelligence to give the correct answer to all things bringing a consensus among fallen humanity, to bring them out of chaos. Many others will consider the calling, then they will abruptly refuse or end the call because they are too busy building their life here on planet Earth. They quickly get involved in schooling, new jobs, careers, building their new homes, romance, and starting a family along with many other things. They simply don’t have time to answer the call, yet they have no idea when their life will end. It could end in the blink of an eye.

If we answer the call, then our eyes will be fully opened to see that life on planet Earth is meant to prepare us for eternity. Those who have answered the call and surrendered to the Lordship of Jesus Christ have also realized that being in Christ through faith changes everything. Somehow time seems to stop for those who keep in step with the Spirit, who miraculously opens and closes doors to the glory of God. Our time is joyously spent in prayer and meditation allowing God to grow us from one degree of glory to another. With our new Spiritual eyes, we see things differently. Time is no longer a bondage but real freedom to allow God to set our agenda for each day knowing that it will be different and exciting as we trust in Him exclusively to direct our path. Preparation takes on a whole new dimension realizing that we were not created to live completely alone but to live in a community with others. Face-to-face relationships take precedence over everything. We learn how to truly live with one another by living for others and not for ourselves. The more we master this self-giving agape love the more eternity comes into focus. We experience the glory of heaven on earth.

As we prepare for eternity realizing that our existence on planet Earth is only in the blink of an eye, then our love for the world and the things of the world completely changes. We have a great love for God’s creation from the beautiful flowers to the amazing trees and the marvelous bushes. We see all of God’s creatures in a different light as living breathing beings that have a purpose in His beautiful creation. So, forgive me if we talk to the birds and the other little creatures scurrying about along with the beautiful growing plants. There is a new loving respect for all of God’s creation from the pristine rivers and lakes to the tall mountains and deep lush valleys. I am sure all this beauty on earth is just a foretaste of things to come in the new heavens and the new earth. We take a different view of the rest of the world created by self-righteous men. Everything they have made will pass away from cars, houses, monuments, and buildings to clothes and luxury items.  We no longer love the things of the world as our hearts are now filled with a deep love for others and God’s beautiful creation.

Yes, everything will pass away in the blink of an eye. We need to ask ourselves a question. “Are we preparing for the best life possible here knowing that it will end in the blink of an eye or are we preparing for eternity?” The Bible says, “And this I pray, that your love may abound yet more and more in knowledge and in all judgment; That ye may approve things that are excellent; that ye may be sincere and without offence till the day of Christ; Being filled with the fruits of righteousness, which are by Jesus Christ, unto the glory and praise of God” (Philippians 1:9-11). This is a beautiful prayer by the Apostle Paul to live as heavenly citizens with our eyes focused on the eternity. We let our love abound more and more by allowing God’s love to flow through us every time we come into proximity with others. This is not a frivolous, insensitive, and uncaring love but a love full of knowledge and judgment (or discernment). This kind of love is always seeking the best for others. With the eyes of knowledge, we look to meet not their felt needs but their real needs, which are often hidden from public view. With the eyes of Spiritual discernment and a silent prayer, we can detect their real needs to be met. Only with knowledge and discernment can we approve what would be right or excellent in our relationships. As we truly live for others, we have a glorious foretaste of heaven.

Furthermore, this abounding love must always be sincere without making an offense. A sincere love always speaks the truth being careful not to make an offense. This is often a fine line between helping others with a needed admonition without offending them with what might appear as rank cruelty. Admonition is “Putting something on someone’s mind” to help them to act rightly with the loving intention to help them to grow spiritually. We must do everything we can to prove that our love is sincere, never meant to hurt and tear down, but to help and build up others in Christ. We will do this continuously until the Day of Christ, compared to eternity it is only in the blink of an eye. The good news is, the more we allow God to love others through us the more we will store up the fruits of righteousness that will remain with us for all eternity to the glory and praise of God. The fruits of righteousness will not only change us but all those around us. As the world sinks deeper and deeper into depravity, our righteousness will appear as a bright light overcoming the darkness. Humanity will repent and come to the light, or they will furiously rise up against us bringing forth horrific persecution. The bright light of our righteousness will either open a door to share the Gospel or it will drive a deeper wedge between us and darkness. In the blink of an eye, we will know where we stand as darkness is revealed.

Take courage, dear children, come out from among them knowing that our victory in Christ will come in the blink of an eye. We take confidence in what we believe, knowing that the truth has set us free from all the lies of a fallen world. We have accepted the call of salvation by faith alone, we have accepted the call of faith, the glorious Gospel of Jesus Christ. The Son of God, Jesus Christ, in His death on the Cross paid for the sins of the entire world. We have followed Christ in His death on the Cross by dying to self, our old sin nature. As Christ rose from the grave in three days, we too have risen with Christ as a new creation in Christ (II Corinthians 5:17). During our short time on earth we have prepared for eternity every moment of every day by putting off the old life and putting on the new life in Christ (Ephesians 4:17-32). This is our testimony. We know that in the blink of an eye, we will be delivered from all the pain and suffering in the world. We look forward to being clothed with our new bodies like the original creation before the fall. We look forward to a deeper and more intimate relationship with God and all of His creation. In the blink of an eye, we will overcome. In the blink of an eye, we will become all that God has called us to become as we step into eternity. All glory to God.

The Gospel Presentation

We have all sinned and fallen short of the glory of God, which explains the many difficulties that you are currently facing in your life. Well, I have good news, God has solved that problem by sending His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ, who was born of a virgin to show us the way to a beautiful new life in Christ. God has dealt with all of our sins past, present, and future by having His son pay the debt for our sins. Jesus Christ willingly went to the Cross in our stead by allowing all of the world’s sins to be placed upon Him as a sacrificial Lamb. As Christ hung on the Cross, the wrath of God was poured out on Him to pay the penalty for our sins. Jesus Christ died on the Cross and was buried for three days. On the third day, Christ arose from death to life everlasting. The good news is if we believe in the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, then we will be forgiven for all of our sins and receive the Holy Spirit. The Spirit will lead us into all truth helping us in the transformation process of putting off the old life, allowing the old sin nature to die with Christ, and then putting on our new life in Christ by being raised with Christ to everlasting life. You can accept Christ today by confessing your sins to Him through a simple prayer asking Him to forgive you and make you into a new creation filled with the Holy Spirit. If you have done that, then you have just begun the greatest journey of your life that leads to heaven and eternal life. Welcome to the Kingdom.

The Third Woe Ends the War

The war for the souls of mankind has been raging for over two thousand years. In my last two articles, we looked at the first two woes, demonstrating that they both began in the first century, even though their greatest effect upon fallen humanity wasn’t realized until the sixth century. Moreover, these two woes have progressively gotten worse through the centuries until the present day. Today, we will look at the third woe that corresponds with the seventh trumpet giving us a glimpse at the end from the beginning; a time of great rejoicing in heaven because the war has finally been won. (Read Revelation 11:14-19). Hallelujah! It’s essential to understand that the Book of Revelation is not a static prophecy, nor a prophecy encapsulated for some future date. It is a very dynamic prophecy relevant for every age giving us direction, hope, and encouragement to stand firm in the midst of the war being waged for the souls of humanity. To fully understand the third woe, it will be necessary to review six chapters in the Book of Revelation and the important interludes, four separate acts, that we will discuss as they appear in the Book of Revelation. Bear with me during this heart-stopping drama, for it’s well worth the journey.

Before the seventh trumpet announces the third woe, the Church needs to understand its role in the war effort. (Read Revelation 10:1-11) Act One. The beautiful symbolism of the prophet eating the “Little Scroll” demonstrates that he (or the church’s prophetic witness) will receive a deeper understanding of this prophecy in each of their respective ages. It also promises that they will fully understand the prophecy in the final hours of the war being waged against humanity by the powers of darkness. The “Seven Thunders” indicates that the mystery of God is not about kingdoms and earthly powers but about proclaiming the transformation of every man in Christ as the key to winning the war. Act Two. Once the Church truly understands the prophetic message then they will effectively stand against the worldly powers propped up by Satan. This effective witness is symbolized by the “Two Witnesses” (Read Revelation 11:1-13) As long as the Church’s witness is focused on personal evangelism, they have great power (See II Corinthians 10:4-6). However, in the last hour, the coming Beast will kill the witness of the Church by causing them to focus on the wrong battle by following him in his political and legalistic endeavors to build his kingdom here on earth (Revelation 13:1-10). When the witness of the Church is finally destroyed, the Beast or the Antichrist (now clearly recognizable by the faithful remnant) will lead the world into a time of great jubilation and dancing in the streets as they send gifts one to another. His coming will also be accompanied by a great earthquake signifying a great shakeup in the world system.

After the seventh trumpet announces the third woe, there is a very important heavenly and historical interlude. Act Three. (Read Revelation 12:1-6) In this Act, we see a war being waged in heaven between the Church (the woman) and the Dragon (Satan). Clearly, what we see happening in heaven is also happening on the earth. The old church, faithful Israel, is seen bringing forth its Savior through the man-child of Jesus Christ. Immediately, Satan tried to devour the child as He escaped to Egypt where God protected Him (see Revelation 12:6). This interlude is very important to the prophecy because it shows us that the war started in heaven long ago before Christ came to earth to save humanity and show them how to win the war that’s being waged against their souls. Act Four. (Read Revelation 12:7-17) In this Act, the prophecy helps us to understand how critical the war effort is for all of humanity, as we realize that Satan has been cast out of heaven making earth his new battleground. Let that sink in! There is no escaping the fact that this war that’s been raging since the first century is for world domination particularly the domination of God’s children. The Bible says, “And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ” (Revelation 12:17). Don’t think for a minute that God’s children can find refuge in a world leader. Our only refuge is in Christ (John 10:28).

Now, we come to the central figure of the Third Woe, the Beast coming out of the sea (Read Revelation 13:1-10). Although the Beast and the powers of darkness have come against the Church in every age (I John 2:18), in the last hour his attacks on humanity and God’s beloved children, in particular, will be unconscionable. His greatest power will be deception. The dragon (Satan) gave the Beast “his power, and his seat, and great authority” (see Revelation 13:2). This is much more than just physical power, it’s spiritual power, the power of persuasion, and deception to lead millions astray. I should not be surprised that his followers will worship the dragon (Satan) because he gave his power to the Beast (see Revelation 13:4) Before you object, anyone who does not surrender their life completely to the Lordship of Jesus Christ is already under control of the evil one following his lead, first in their thoughts, then in their actions. I believe many will worship anyone, including Satan, who would allow them to build “a brave new world!” A world with no restrictions or condemnations from religion. We cannot make the world “Great Again” through the political process. Perhaps, what’s most disturbing to me is that he will overcome the saints (see Revelation 13:7). Most will be overcome because they are no longer fighting the war by winning people to Christ but are trying to legislate morality through their political party or forcing people to do what they believe to be righteous and just. To reject God’s methodology in saving souls accepts what the devil offers, which will untimely lead to unleashed immorality, beyond Sodom and Gomorrah. Dear children, let’s not fight the wrong battle and lose the war.

This first Beast in the last hour has a lot of help from the religious type of Beast (or the second Beast) (Read Revelation 13:11-18). Perhaps, this has been the problem from the beginning where religious leaders are propping up their favorite dictator or simply those willing to fulfill the desires of the lukewarm Church. Throughout Church history, they have always worked hand in hand, especially the Catholic Church, which often used their military might to keep their people in line through Papal Bulls, the Inquisitions, or to fulfill their will in conquering other nations. Now, it’s a new day but the Revelation continues. The second Beast brings forth many mighty miracles that amaze all of humanity from Artificial General Intelligence to facial recognition, and from robotic technology to human implants for tracking or psychological control. He will build an Image of the Beast, which has the ability to both speak and require humanity to take a mark and worship the first Beast (the Antichrist or the Man of Lawlessness). Read again carefully Revelation 13:14-15. Exactly how the Image of the Beast (AGI) will lead humanity to worship the first Beast and take the mark (implant, tracking device, or some other invisible mark) is not known at this point. Just keep in mind that whatever they do and how they do it will be extremely deceptive, and most will not even realize that they are worshipping the Beast, taking the mark, or the name of the Beast, or the number of his name (Revelation 13:17).

At this point, we are probably thinking we could use some encouragement, especially if there is just a glimmer of a possibility that we will be here when all this happens. Well, I am delighted to tell you the whole next chapter of the book of Revelation is dedicated to doing just that, giving us encouragement, direction, and hope. Please read Revelation 14:1-20. The glories of heaven await God’s chosen and beloved children, who will not be marked by the Beast and his evil powers of darkness but will have on them the seal and name of their Father in heaven (Ephesians 1:13-14). We take great encouragement that we are now and always will be in the company of the Lamb of God. As God’s holy angels go forth into the whole world preaching the everlasting Gospel (Revelation 14:6-7), we don’t sit idly by but continue in great patience obeying the commandments of God and remaining faithful to Jesus. We also to do our part in the war effort against the powers of darkness by joining God’s holy angels in sharing the everlasting gospel (See the Gospel Presentation below) and going through the open doors of opportunity they give to us, as we are led by the indwelling Spirit. There’s still hope for the wicked if they repent. We rejoice and have hope that the war will finally end with God’s righteous judgment coming upon fallen humanity to right all wrongs for the many centuries of hate and persecution directed toward His people, the true Church.

In the next three chapters, we see the climax of the third woe and the end of the war between the powers of darkness and the holiness of God. The Bible says, “And I saw another sign in heaven, great and marvelous, seven angels having the seven last plagues; for in them is filled up the wrath of God” (Revelation 15:1). We have seen plagues from the hand of God for over two thousand years. While it woke up some in their slumber, unfortunately, most continued on their merry way and on the path to eternal damnation. Even with an increase in the number and strength of hurricanes, earthquakes, and forest fires engulfing whole cities, along with the latest pandemic, most are still making excuses as they close their ears to the Gospel of Jesus Christ. God wishes no one to be lost, so He leaves His faithful remnant in place to continue sharing the Gospel with the hope that with the final plagues and outpouring of His wrath, fallen humanity will repent of their wickedness and turn back to God.

In the four trumpets, we saw a much gentler persuasion with only a partial outpouring of God’s wrath on fallen humanity. In each plague, there is only a partial devastation. A third part of the trees are burnt up; a third part of the creatures in the sea die; a third part of the rivers and freshwater are polluted causing many men to die, and only a third part of the sky is darkened because of air pollution also causing many to die (Read Revelation 8:7-12). Even in the first two woes, only a third of humanity is affected but now it will be much different. Multiply all of our current calamities by three and you will get an idea of what’s soon to come. In each of these final bowls of God’s wrath to be poured out there will be complete and total devastation. Read Revelation 16:1-17, noisome and grievous sores will fall upon on every man, which had the mark the Beast and worshipped his image; every living soul in the sea will die; rivers and freshwater are totally polluted; all men are scorched with great heat from the sun; the kingdom of the Beast is cast into utter darkness; the kings of the east are gathered for the great and final battle of Armageddon, and then a very mighty earthquake strikes, worse than the world has ever seen. Now ask yourself: Do you want to face this alone or do you want to face it under the power and protection of our Lord? Then, also consider your family and friends. Which is more important, saving the aspirations of your political party, keeping your trusted friends on social media, or the salvation of souls and winning the war? If you fight the wrong battle, you will lose the war. Dear Christian, be transformed in Christ now and start snatching people from the coming fires of eternal damnation by proclaiming the simple truth of the Gospel stated below.

The Second Woe – The Muslim Invasion

The Bible says, “One woe is past; and, behold, there come two woes more hereafter” (Revelation 9:12). In my last article, “The Silent Pandemic of Mental Illness,” we discussed the first Woe that had its conception in the First Century but was not fully realized until the Sixth Century with the opening of the first mental hospital in Iraq. Today we will discuss the second Woe that also had its beginning in the First Century with a number of heresies coming against the true teachings of our Lord. Like the first Woe, this heresy against the Church would not be fully realized or have its greatest effect upon fallen humanity until the Sixth Century. After the sounding of the sixth trumpet that corresponds with the second Woe, a voice came from the throne of God in heaven directing the angel to, “Loose the four angels which are bound in the great river Euphrates” (See Revelation 9:13-14). These four bound angels represent four strong powers that would arise and project an even more damaging heresy upon the Christian and Jewish communities. In the Sixth Century, Christians and Jews at the time lived peacefully in the area of the Euphrates River, also known as the Fertile Crescent, until they were conquered by Muslim invaders. These new converts to Islam in time were prepared for future incursions into the known world to kill and destroy (See Revelation 9:15).

Let’s back up a moment. Let’s be very clear, in the beginning before Mohammad received his prophecy in a cave, he was living in a Judeo-Christian world, where the Church at the time would have seen this new prophecy as just another heresy. Mohammad was so rejected at the time in Mecca that he moved to Medina to enlarge his following. His early conquest would not only send him back to Mecca and the Arabian Peninsula but as already stated, to the Euphrates River and the Fertile Crescent. This early heresy that eventually turned into the world’s second-largest religion has for many years solidified its position in the Middle East, especially trying to establish or re-establish a caliphate in Turkey, Syria, and Iraq, all along the Euphrates River. The other major country just East of the Euphrates River is the Ancient Persian Empire or modern-day Iran, clearly making it the fourth power (or angel) to be released. God can and has already used the Muslim invaders to bring His Woe upon fallen humanity. This Muslim invasion is a perfect tool in the hands of a righteous God to rebuke the sins of fallen humanity as well as the sins of the Church. The Islamic faith has no greater hate than it does against Israel and the West, and especially the United States whom they see as being worse than Sodom and Gomorrah.

Before going any further, it’s important to understand just how different the teachings of Islam are from the teachings of Jesus Christ, the Son of God. Most believers in Christ understand His message of love, going the extra mile, and turning the other cheek. On the other hand, many today have greyed the lines between Christianity and Islam by ignoring what Muslims believe from their holy book, the Qur’an. It’s important to mention again, that the early Church Fathers saw Islam as a heresy and later on as coming from the devil himself. Speaking of infidels, the Qur’an says, slay the unbeliever wherever you find them. (2:191) Make war on the infidels living in your neighborhood. (9:1:23) When opportunity arises, kill the infidels wherever you catch them. (9:5) Kill the Jews and Christians if they do not convert to Islam or refuse to pay the Jizya tax. (9:29) Do not hanker for peace with the infidels; behead them when you catch them. (47:4) Muslims must not take the infidels as friends. (3:28) Terrorize and behead those who believe in scriptures other than the Qur’an. (8:12) Muslims must muster all weapons to terrorize the infidels. (8:60) This is just a short sampling of the many verses in the Qur’an that teach their followers to kill, maim, crucify, and behead others in the name of their god. This is not a message of love from a loving God but one of hate and barbarism.

Take your time now and read through carefully Revelation 9:15-19. In very graphic apocalyptic language, it describes in detail how terrorism has gripped the entire world through bombs, explosives, and perhaps one day by the releasing of an atomic bomb in the heart of the infidel’s homeland, the United States of America, by the Muslim invaders. The Bible says, “The four angels were loosed, which were prepared for an hour, and day, and a month, and a year, for to slay the third part of men” (Revelation 9:15). What’s clear about this verse is that the preparation was incremental not only in the preparation but also in the implementation or the number of men being slain upon the earth. Step by step the new Muslim invaders, whom the early Church Fathers called heretics, would prepare people through a deeper indoctrination of their faith and then how to destroy other men who would not convert. This second Woe has continued for over fifteen hundred years and will only grow much worse in the coming months and even beyond our worst nightmare. Nothing will stop this woe except total and complete repentance, which is difficult to see with fallen humanity who have mostly turned their backs on God after publicly spitting in His eye. Don’t think for a moment that a new deal with Iran will change anything. Remember this was tried by Obama and Biden. Don’t think for a moment that the Pope shaking hands and making a deal with Islam will change anything. Prophecy will be fulfilled.

As we examine this apocalyptic language a bit closer, we see the number of mounted cavalry is in the millions. If we took those numbers literally the only country that could mount a million-man army, at this point, would be China, which is much further East of the Euphrates river. On the other hand, and more correctly to the text that’s not locked into time, we can add up the total number of cavalrymen, infantry, soldiers, and terrorists for the entire fifteen hundred years and come up easily with well over a million Muslim invaders going forth to kill and destroy. Furthermore, the apocalyptic vision stresses the importance of the weapons used to kill and destroy a third of mankind. The vision sees fire sulfur coming out of either the musket, a rifle, the turret of a tank, or an Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM). The Bible says, “By these three was the third part of men killed, by the fire, and by the smoke, and by the brimstone, which issued out of their mouths” (Revelation 9:18). We can easily see how explosives and bombs have become the favorite arsenal of the Muslim terrorist. Revelation 9:19 could well represent some form of advanced weaponry unknown by the prophet in the first century. One could easily conjecture that the “tails” could be seen as the additional launching of multiple short-range missiles being launched from a “Multiple Rocket Launcher (MRL).

In the following two verses, fallen humanity is still not eager to repent even after these two devastating Woes. Please read Revelation 9:20-21. Let me suggest at least two reasons why fallen humanity refuses to repent of their many sins. First, fallen humanity has explained away the plagues and woes, no longer attributing them to the hand of God, which is meant to lead fallen humanity to repentance. It appears that most people are more interested in sharing some new conspiracy theory or some made-up false prophecy rather than sharing the Word of God. Or it’s just easier to follow the crowd and blame everything on Global Warming or poor national or international leadership. Let us pray, that when the Muslim invaders finally make it to our country as they have done so in many countries, then we must stand up and share the truth of the Gospel. The second reason people are unwilling to repent, is they love their new lifestyle and they greatly enjoy their sins even when you tell them that their sins will lead to death and eternal damnation. Although we know that the Bible says that fallen humanity is blinded by the god of this world (see II Corinthians 4:4), let us continue to pray that the plagues and woes sent by the hand of God will wake them up to their true spiritual condition.

Finally, as already stated, this second Woe will end up bringing us our worst nightmare, especially if we allow Iran to complete its nuclear ambition. They have told us plainly that they hate America and that they will erase Israel from the map. This coming war will no doubt lead to the last great war against the Holy Land of Israel and any country that stands with her. We must listen to the threats of those who seek to destroy us and not try to appease them with some foolish peace treaty. The prophecy was given over two thousand years ago and applies to our present day. If we ignore this prophecy, we do so at our own peril. Let me conclude, by saying it once again, our only option is true repentance and turning back to the one true God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. If we as a people don’t repent, we will stand alone to face the coming horrors of the Muslim invasion from within and from without. Make no mistake, this Muslim invasion could very easily turn into the final woe that could bring with them the Eastern Alliance that’s already being formed between Russia, China, and North Korea. This would follow on the heels of Iran detonating its newly developed nuclear bomb to wipe Israel off the map. Antisemitism is only the beginning of what could happen from within our country or especially from without, through the Eastern Alliance. Prophecy will be fulfilled. Woe, Woe, Woe to a nation that turns its back on God.

You can accept Christ today by confessing your sins to Him through a simple prayer asking Him to forgive you and make you into a new creation filled with the Holy Spirit. If you have done that, then you have just begun the greatest journey of your life that leads to heaven and eternal life. Welcome to the Kingdom.

The Silent Pandemic of Mental Illness

The last thing the world needs is another pandemic. Yet, this new pandemic of mental illness has been in the works for over two thousand years when the prophet announced the three woes coming soon upon the world (see Revelation 8:13). In its infancy, long before it was ever recognized as an epidemic, few people suffered from mental illness while even fewer souls were classified as being insane. By the sixth century, this all changed. The epidemic was growing exponentially in the East with the first mental hospital constructed in Baghdad, Iraq in 750 AD. By the nineteenth century, the epidemic moved to Europe and then to the United States. With the growing number of mental disorders being cataloged in the “Diagnostic Statistical Manual” the pharmaceutical industry started producing an array of mind-altering drugs to treat every symptom. As the epidemic grew, most people were reluctant to admit to having a mental disorder and they soon became the unseen majority, popping their pills and suffering in silence. This silence caused the closure of many mental hospitals and the rise of numerous counseling centers to handle the sheer number of patients. Mental illness is real, causing a great drain on the world’s economy and the productivity of its workforce. As the world suffers in silence it’s time for God’s prophets to proclaim loudly what’s causing this silent pandemic.

The fallen world has always been good at explaining things away or casting the blame in the wrong place. When we look at the book of Revelation and specifically at the three woes, it’s essential that we don’t encapsulate them into our limited time frame. If we make God’s prophecy start, continue, and stop at a specified time as seen in many prophetic charts and timelines, then we will miss the scope and true interpretation of God’s timeless prophecies. The first woe in the book of Revelation corresponds with the angel sounding the fifth trumpet causing a star to fall from heaven allowing a heavenly personage to open the bottomless pit, clearly the releasing of the demonic hordes from the pits of hell. (Read Revelation 8:13-9:2). The ensuing verses describe in graphic detail what comes out of the pits of hell to torment fallen humanity causing the pandemic of mental illness. The Bible says, “And there came out of the smoke locusts upon the earth: and unto them was given power, as the scorpions of the earth have power” (Revelation 9:3). Locusts throughout history have brought forth devastating plagues because of their behavior to swarm with millions of others destroying everything in its path and also causing the sky to grow dark by blocking out the sun’s light and giving rise to unprecedented fear.

In the next verse (See Revelation 9:4) the locusts are commanded not to follow their natural instinct to destroy the grass, the trees, or any green thing. Their primary target is only those who have turned away from God and are NOT marked with His heavenly seal. The Bible says, that every true believer is sealed with the promised Holy Spirit (See Ephesians 1:13). On the other hand, all of fallen humanity will be affected by this woe being sent from heaven that’s causing the pandemic of mental illness. These locusts swarming upon fallen humanity, metaphorically speaking, will create sudden and deep darkness in a person’s life. Those suffering from mental illness have indicated their great struggle to concentrate, stay focused, and to see their way going forward as if they were in a deep fog. In many cases, they have experienced an unwillingness to continue working or even having a desire to leave their beds. Many others struggle to walk in both kingdoms, the kingdom of God, and the kingdom of fallen humanity steeped in the grossest of immorality, driving them in one direction and then another. For some, the darkness in their souls has turned them further away from God leading them to dabble in the black arts and satanic rituals seeking to fill the void left in their tormented souls.

The Bible continues to describe these demons from hell sent to torment fallen humanity by indicating that these locusts have tails like a scorpion that will sting their victims and torment them for five months. Although the five months was selected because that’s the normal season for locust, from May to September, symbolically it could last the entire life span of a human.  (See Revelation 9:5, and 9:10). This amazing apocalyptic language describes in graphic detail what these evil hordes of demonic invaders can do to fallen humanity for rejecting their Creator. In recent studies, the scorpion causes great pain to their predators, not to kill but to drive them away. The scorpion’s sting is rarely fatal. For the human, the pain from a scorpion is extremely painful because the venom, consisting of a variety of different toxins, magnifies the pain receptors in the brain causing intense pain. In the same way, mental illness can cause intense pain that’s not always observable but very real as many suffer for years in silence. Critical symptoms of a scorpion sting can consist of muscle twitching, drooling, and sweating. It’s quite remarkable, that these are the same symptoms often seen in mentally ill patients who are on the threshold of insanity. The scorpion was specifically chosen by God’s prophet to demonstrate how its sting relates so closely to these symptoms of mental illness.

There are many facets to mental illness causing a torrent of behavior problems, where their actions are beyond just strange. Their behavior is capable of causing great harm to others as well as to themselves. There is also a litany of both aggressive and repressive emotions from the sudden outburst of crying to unhinged anger and to the damaging effects of buried emotions. Perhaps the greatest and most damaging emotion is fear. They have a fear of living or facing another day. They have a fear that others might know their true condition. They fear that others will know of their hourly struggles to maintain a rational mind without the constant onslaught of stress, anxiety, depression, and a host of other psychological disorders. They fear that others might discern their horrible thoughts that once shocked their own sensibilities but now have full reign. Their demonically inspired thoughts can come with no warning and at any time or in any place, which can lead them to display a glazed-over look in public. The Bible says, “And in those days shall men seek death, and shall not find it; and shall desire to die, and death shall flee from them” (Revelation 9:6). They say that mental anguish is the greatest pain of all, driving people to the threshold of insanity with constant thoughts of committing suicide.  This silent pandemic of mental illness is spreading at an alarming rate, that’s also spilling into the streets of America.

Let’s be very clear, this is a demonic invasion. The Bible goes to great lengths in the following verses, of this eye-opening prophecy, that this is an unseen enemy that will attack the minds of fallen humanity with unrelenting vengeance. Before we proceed, read carefully Revelation 9:7-11. Notice what it says in the last verse, “And they had a king over them, which is the angel of the bottomless pit, whose name in the Hebrew tongue is Abaddon, but in the Greek tongue hath his name Apollyon” (Revelation 9:11). The name “Abaddon” literally means destruction, which is exactly the intent of this demonic force. He is bent on the destruction of the mental faculties of fallen humanity, driving them further and further away from any semblance of a rational mind. Whereas the literal meaning of “Apollyon” is to destroy. This is his ultimate goal. When the mind is destroyed of even the most beautiful people there is nothing left but a hollow shell grasping for the simplest meaning of life and their intended place in it. There is nothing more horrifying than to lose one’s mind unable to make rational choices or intelligent decisions. There is nothing more fearful on this earth than to be alive in the body but mentally dead and on the precipice of insanity. This silent pandemic of mental illness is real and much worse than any virus.

The good news is this condition can change. It’s not fatal. The world, however, does not have a remedy. There is no vaccine for this pandemic. Counseling will not work. Drugs will not work. Attempting to cast out Satan will not work. Becoming an expert in spiritual warfare will not work. Let me be very clear mental illness is real for fallen humanity. As a Christian counselor for many years, I truly sympathize with them and understand their psychological struggles and their deep emotional pain. I know the world is trying its best to fight this pandemic allowing the population to return to a sense of normalcy. Even at their best though, the fallen world can no more defeat this pandemic of mental illness than it can defeat the wrath of God being poured out on unrepentant humanity. The only course of action in overcoming either is to turn back to God and recognize Him as both your Creator and your Savior. Cry out to God now in heartfelt repentance asking Him for forgiveness for turning your back on Him and loving the things of this world. Believe the Gospel that God’s Son, Jesus Christ, died on the Cross for your sins and was raised on the third day to give you a new transformed life. Once you are sealed by the living God, you will no longer rest under His wrath, His plagues, or His woes. Praise God! And all of God’s people will rejoice.

Angels and Demons Among Us

Most believers have cherished opinions on what angels and demons can and cannot do. Some have struggled against Satan and his powers of darkness, while others have actually entertained angels unaware. Today, we will take a deeper dive into this very important topic, of fallen angels, because it will be essential as we draw closer to the end. We hear quite a bit about Satan and his demonic powers but little about angels. However, Satan and the demons are actually fallen angels. The Bible says, “And the great dragon was thrown down, that ancient serpent, who is called the devil and Satan, the deceiver of the whole world—he was thrown down to the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him” (Revelation 12:9, ESV). Although this was done over two thousand years ago because of their rebellion against God in heaven, to this day they are still making war against God’s faithful remnant, who keep God’s commandments (Revelation 12:17). This is a psychological warfare to lead humanity to join them in their rebellion against God. In my last article, we wrote about how Satan and his powers of darkness are clandestinely leading humanity to not trust in God exclusively. Today we will look at how the fallen angels are leading humanity to rebel against God by embracing everything the world has to offer.

To understand this rebellion, let’s observe how one of the ancient rulers from the past followed Satan’s path in rebellion against God. Isaiah the prophet described in detail how this ancient ruler, Nebuchadnezzar, rebelled against God, which led to his eventual downfall and tragic outcome. The Bible says, “How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!” (Isaiah 14:12). The prophet indicates that Nebuchadnezzar (referred to as Lucifer) is a star that has fallen from heaven, which immediately opens the possibility of a fallen angel. And then the prophet refers to him in terms of divinity, which are the same type of terms used by Jesus Christ, the Son of God. In the Book of Revelation, it says that Jesus Christ is the giver of the “Morning Star” (Revelation 2:28); and that He claimed to be “The Bright and Morning Star” (Revelation 22:16). This reference used by Jesus Christ indicates that the Spirit who inspired the prophet Isaiah saw the prideful attempt of humanity to join the rebellion and be like God. Furthermore, it’s noteworthy that this rebellion against God has been repeated often throughout history. The earliest example was when united humanity decided to build the Tower of Babel that would reach up to heaven to be like God (Genesis 11:1ff).

Pride, which many see as the cardinal sin, is a chief hallmark of Satan and the fallen angels, which we have seen in many of the world’s rulers. The prophet continues, “For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High” (Isaiah 14:13-14). The last few words of this inspired writing encapsulate humanity’s desire to join the rebellion against God by becoming more or equal to the most High God. Although millions will be led astray in each epoch in history, humanity will never succeed in supplanting God. The pride of mankind and the power of the fallen angels will never succeed. All of their wealth and prestige will fail. The inspired prophet concludes, “Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit” (Isaiah 14:15). This is the eventual outcome of every fallen angel and Satan, who has led them in their rebellion against God, not only in heaven but also on the Earth. Although there are many more examples throughout history, we will concentrate on what the fallen angels are attempting to do now in leading humanity to rebel against God, their Creator.

Let’s be very clear about who these fallen angels have been targeting, ever since Satan’s initial defeat, and being cast out of heaven with his rebellious angels (Revelation 12:9). The Bible says, “And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ” (Revelation 12:17). Yes, born again believers in Christ who make up the faithful remnant, keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ. This testimony of Jesus Christ is the Gospel presentation, which is the power unto salvation (Romans 1:16). This faithful remnant is the only one not in open rebellion against God. They have effectively come out from the world and are no longer being tossed about by every wind of doctrine or senseless opinion coming from the world (Revelation 18:4-5). Every day these faithful followers of Christ are growing up from one degree of glory to another (II Corinthians 3:18) becoming new people in Christ and allowing old things to pass away (II Corinthians 5:17). Make no mistake the rebellion against God will grow stronger every day driving humanity to eventually persecute His remnant for not participating in the rebellion.

So, who are these fallen angels? Is it possible for them to have human form like the holy angels sent by God? The Bible says, “Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares” (Hebrews 13:2). For those of us who have actually entertained angels, at the time quite unaware, know with all assurance that angels can take human form. My own experience happened early in my ministry when I invited an older homeless man home to have dinner and spend the night in a spare room. I discovered in the midst of our meal that he claimed to be a retired priest who began to share things that deeply warmed our hearts and brought great encouragement to a new Church Pastor and minister of the Gospel. After he attended the next morning’s worship service I never saw him again, but he will always rest deeply in my cherished memories. Yes, I believe that fallen angels can also take on human form and be very instrumental in leading humanity in open rebellion against God. Like holy angels sent by God, they will not reveal their actual identity because they may not know themselves. However, with the proper discernment from God, I believe that His faithful remnant will know or at least suspect.

Finally, let’s be very clear, the only reason for discernment is to allow God’s children to stay clear of suspected fallen angels in the same way we keep our minds and thoughts clear from the wiles of the devil (Ephesians 6:10-20). For someone who has seen demonic possession in an individual that I was attempting to help and has also seen the great psychiatric effects it has had on so many people, then I don’t take spiritual warfare lightly. Now, as far as fallen angels are concerned, it should never be our place to identify them publicly, which would put a clear target on us and our associates. Having said that, there are certain traits, characteristics, or behaviors that should alert every true believer in Christ. Perhaps the number one trait, unlike God’s Holy angels, they want everything the world can offer. They want and strive for monetary wealth, typically making them billionaires. They want power and prestige to control the destiny of humanity. They want total control and typically take whatever they want even if it is illegal. They are extremely prideful believing that they have all the answers for ailing humanity. They constantly boast that they can accomplish amazing things for the good of all humanity. What they really want is, “I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High” (Isaiah 14:14). Oh Lord, open our eyes to recognize the fallen angels amongst us and their undisclosed or purposely hidden rebellion against you.

Make no mistake, this rebellion led by the fallen angels, is at the height of deception. The people in the world following them in their rebellion will not be lunatics or misguided people. They are not psychopaths or deeply troubled people. They will be normal. Most will claim to know God, they will openly express a deep love for Him, attempting to justify everything that they are doing with Holy Scripture. They are not too much unlike the people in every epoch that blindly followed great leaders in rebellion against God believing all along that they were on the side of righteousness because the other side looked so bad and so grossly perverted. Yet, our quest for the righteousness of humanity apart from God’s simple methods can become incredibly blinding leading us to believe that we with our own political or religious power can produce righteousness. This has been the trap of the enemy from the beginning. This has produced the rebellion against God in every epoch of history. Only the simple Gospel presented in sincere love will ever change the world or we have made the Cross of Calvary to non-effect, which is the devil’s plan. Come out from among them, dear children, and become the faithful remnant, using only the weapons of righteousness to the glory of God.
