Angels and Demons Among Us

Most believers have cherished opinions on what angels and demons can and cannot do. Some have struggled against Satan and his powers of darkness, while others have actually entertained angels unaware. Today, we will take a deeper dive into this very important topic, of fallen angels, because it will be essential as we draw closer to the end. We hear quite a bit about Satan and his demonic powers but little about angels. However, Satan and the demons are actually fallen angels. The Bible says, “And the great dragon was thrown down, that ancient serpent, who is called the devil and Satan, the deceiver of the whole world—he was thrown down to the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him” (Revelation 12:9, ESV). Although this was done over two thousand years ago because of their rebellion against God in heaven, to this day they are still making war against God’s faithful remnant, who keep God’s commandments (Revelation 12:17). This is a psychological warfare to lead humanity to join them in their rebellion against God. In my last article, we wrote about how Satan and his powers of darkness are clandestinely leading humanity to not trust in God exclusively. Today we will look at how the fallen angels are leading humanity to rebel against God by embracing everything the world has to offer.

To understand this rebellion, let’s observe how one of the ancient rulers from the past followed Satan’s path in rebellion against God. Isaiah the prophet described in detail how this ancient ruler, Nebuchadnezzar, rebelled against God, which led to his eventual downfall and tragic outcome. The Bible says, “How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!” (Isaiah 14:12). The prophet indicates that Nebuchadnezzar (referred to as Lucifer) is a star that has fallen from heaven, which immediately opens the possibility of a fallen angel. And then the prophet refers to him in terms of divinity, which are the same type of terms used by Jesus Christ, the Son of God. In the Book of Revelation, it says that Jesus Christ is the giver of the “Morning Star” (Revelation 2:28); and that He claimed to be “The Bright and Morning Star” (Revelation 22:16). This reference used by Jesus Christ indicates that the Spirit who inspired the prophet Isaiah saw the prideful attempt of humanity to join the rebellion and be like God. Furthermore, it’s noteworthy that this rebellion against God has been repeated often throughout history. The earliest example was when united humanity decided to build the Tower of Babel that would reach up to heaven to be like God (Genesis 11:1ff).

Pride, which many see as the cardinal sin, is a chief hallmark of Satan and the fallen angels, which we have seen in many of the world’s rulers. The prophet continues, “For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High” (Isaiah 14:13-14). The last few words of this inspired writing encapsulate humanity’s desire to join the rebellion against God by becoming more or equal to the most High God. Although millions will be led astray in each epoch in history, humanity will never succeed in supplanting God. The pride of mankind and the power of the fallen angels will never succeed. All of their wealth and prestige will fail. The inspired prophet concludes, “Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit” (Isaiah 14:15). This is the eventual outcome of every fallen angel and Satan, who has led them in their rebellion against God, not only in heaven but also on the Earth. Although there are many more examples throughout history, we will concentrate on what the fallen angels are attempting to do now in leading humanity to rebel against God, their Creator.

Let’s be very clear about who these fallen angels have been targeting, ever since Satan’s initial defeat, and being cast out of heaven with his rebellious angels (Revelation 12:9). The Bible says, “And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ” (Revelation 12:17). Yes, born again believers in Christ who make up the faithful remnant, keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ. This testimony of Jesus Christ is the Gospel presentation, which is the power unto salvation (Romans 1:16). This faithful remnant is the only one not in open rebellion against God. They have effectively come out from the world and are no longer being tossed about by every wind of doctrine or senseless opinion coming from the world (Revelation 18:4-5). Every day these faithful followers of Christ are growing up from one degree of glory to another (II Corinthians 3:18) becoming new people in Christ and allowing old things to pass away (II Corinthians 5:17). Make no mistake the rebellion against God will grow stronger every day driving humanity to eventually persecute His remnant for not participating in the rebellion.

So, who are these fallen angels? Is it possible for them to have human form like the holy angels sent by God? The Bible says, “Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares” (Hebrews 13:2). For those of us who have actually entertained angels, at the time quite unaware, know with all assurance that angels can take human form. My own experience happened early in my ministry when I invited an older homeless man home to have dinner and spend the night in a spare room. I discovered in the midst of our meal that he claimed to be a retired priest who began to share things that deeply warmed our hearts and brought great encouragement to a new Church Pastor and minister of the Gospel. After he attended the next morning’s worship service I never saw him again, but he will always rest deeply in my cherished memories. Yes, I believe that fallen angels can also take on human form and be very instrumental in leading humanity in open rebellion against God. Like holy angels sent by God, they will not reveal their actual identity because they may not know themselves. However, with the proper discernment from God, I believe that His faithful remnant will know or at least suspect.

Finally, let’s be very clear, the only reason for discernment is to allow God’s children to stay clear of suspected fallen angels in the same way we keep our minds and thoughts clear from the wiles of the devil (Ephesians 6:10-20). For someone who has seen demonic possession in an individual that I was attempting to help and has also seen the great psychiatric effects it has had on so many people, then I don’t take spiritual warfare lightly. Now, as far as fallen angels are concerned, it should never be our place to identify them publicly, which would put a clear target on us and our associates. Having said that, there are certain traits, characteristics, or behaviors that should alert every true believer in Christ. Perhaps the number one trait, unlike God’s Holy angels, they want everything the world can offer. They want and strive for monetary wealth, typically making them billionaires. They want power and prestige to control the destiny of humanity. They want total control and typically take whatever they want even if it is illegal. They are extremely prideful believing that they have all the answers for ailing humanity. They constantly boast that they can accomplish amazing things for the good of all humanity. What they really want is, “I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High” (Isaiah 14:14). Oh Lord, open our eyes to recognize the fallen angels amongst us and their undisclosed or purposely hidden rebellion against you.

Make no mistake, this rebellion led by the fallen angels, is at the height of deception. The people in the world following them in their rebellion will not be lunatics or misguided people. They are not psychopaths or deeply troubled people. They will be normal. Most will claim to know God, they will openly express a deep love for Him, attempting to justify everything that they are doing with Holy Scripture. They are not too much unlike the people in every epoch that blindly followed great leaders in rebellion against God believing all along that they were on the side of righteousness because the other side looked so bad and so grossly perverted. Yet, our quest for the righteousness of humanity apart from God’s simple methods can become incredibly blinding leading us to believe that we with our own political or religious power can produce righteousness. This has been the trap of the enemy from the beginning. This has produced the rebellion against God in every epoch of history. Only the simple Gospel presented in sincere love will ever change the world or we have made the Cross of Calvary to non-effect, which is the devil’s plan. Come out from among them, dear children, and become the faithful remnant, using only the weapons of righteousness to the glory of God.

The Gospel Presentation

We have all sinned and fallen short of the glory of God, which explains the many difficulties that you are currently facing in your life. Well, I have good news, God has solved that problem by sending His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ, who was born of a virgin to show us the way to a beautiful new life in Christ. God has dealt with all of our sins past, present, and future by having His son pay the debt for our sins. Jesus Christ willingly went to the Cross in our stead by allowing all of the world’s sins to be placed upon Him as a sacrificial Lamb. As Christ hung on the Cross, the wrath of God was poured out on Him to pay the penalty for our sins. Jesus Christ died on the Cross and was buried for three days. On the third day, Christ arose from death to life everlasting. The good news is if we believe in the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, then we will be forgiven for all of our sins and receive the Holy Spirit. The Spirit will lead us into all truth helping us in the transformation process of putting off the old life, allowing the old sin nature to die with Christ, and then putting on our new life in Christ by being raised with Christ to everlasting life. You can accept Christ today by confessing your sins to Him through a simple prayer asking Him to forgive you and make you into a new creation filled with the Holy Spirit. If you have done that, then you have just begun the greatest journey of your life that leads to heaven and eternal life. Welcome to the Kingdom.

How To Build Our Self-confidence

Unfortunately, when many come to accept Jesus Christ as their Lord, they don’t have much self-confidence. Often times it happens in their early childhood when parents or others are very critical of them and even express all manner of negative talk about their abilities. This often follows these dear souls into adulthood causing them monumental problems, creating self-doubt and a lack of self-confidence. Not only do they doubt their abilities, but they doubt if they can receive the full portion of a wonderful life free from a life of unrelenting pain, agony, and despair. The good news is that Jesus Christ promises to erase the past as if it never existed. Although many have heard this good news and have sincerely believed it in their hearts, yet they still struggle daily to see it manifested in their lives because their lives often feel like a never-ending Ferris wheel of ups and downs. Dear children, let’s do a deep dive into Holy Scripture and discover how we can experience the great life of self-confidence found only in Christ Jesus.

Our faith in what Christ did for us on the Cross promises us a brand-new life in Christ (II Corinthians 5:17). So, what does that brand-new life look like? It’s not just learning how to play church, it’s much deeper than that. This new life is not something we can learn on our own initiative or power. This new life is brought about in stages from one degree of glory to another through the power and grace of the indwelling Holy Spirit. There is no waiting required to receive this indwelling Spirit but comes immediately to everyone who professes Jesus Christ as Lord, believes in the Gospel message, and sincerely repents from all of their known sins. It is His job to make us into a new creation that will grow us spiritually to become the very image of Jesus Christ in all of His holiness. The one tool that the Holy Spirit uses is the inspired Word of God, the Bible, to convict us of our unrighteousness and to encourage us to put on our new lives in Christ. To put on our new life in Christ modifies our outward behavior and our every thought that passes through our minds. Dear children, to allow this Spiritual growth to take place in our lives, we must allow the old life pass away.

Allowing the old life to pass away has always been a sticking point for most of humanity. Until that happens, we will never become all that Christ wants us to be as a new creation. The Bible says, “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he isa new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new” (II Corinthians 5:17). Dear children, old things must pass away before all things become new. This is the sticking point. The moment we are born we begin to learn. We are a species that continually learns from the cradle to the grave. It is a non-ending process. Let’s begin by just concentrating on what we have previously learned, which has essentially made us who we are before we accepted Christ as our Lord. We have had many sources from our parents to our friends, and from our schools to our own research through reading and watching. Unfortunately, most of what we have learned from fallen humanity is completely different from the teachings of Jesus Christ. We have to learn to let go of all the teachings that are contrary to the doctrines and beliefs that we have in Jesus Christ. This is most difficult in a world that readily accepts the integration of the world’s teachings with God’s unchangeable truth.

We most readily see this integration of psychology, science, changing history, philosophy, and the wisdom of mankind. It’s amazing how these different disciplines have been so easily integrated into God’s all-sufficient, infallible, and unchanging truth. As long as we hold onto these worldly truths by integrating and believing them, then we will never become all that God wants us to become in Christ. At best we will only become lukewarm Christians who Christ spews out of His mouth (Revelation 3:16). The Bible says, “According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue” (II Peter 1:3). All things! All things that pertain to life and godliness! That means God will give us everything we need. Most believers don’t believe that, so they try to hold on to everything that they have ever learned about life. To make this more readily acceptable, then they integrate this new knowledge with God’s truth. When we do, then we don’t spend the necessary time needed to apply only God’s truth to our lives, by doing and thinking exactly what it says. Dear children this is the first step and the lifelong process of putting on the new life in Christ.

Most people believe that they can control their behavior, if they choose to do so. On the other hand, most people don’t ever think about controlling what they think about. Simply put, they don’t really see the need. Not only is it necessary, but it is also essential to control what we think about, all the time. Our thinking can cause irrational or bad behavior (Matthew 5:28). It can lead to deep emotional and psychological problems, all of which will stunt our spiritual growth leading to unwanted consequences. Here is the miracle of our transformation in Christ, when we learn how to control our thinking then it will be much easier to allow Christ to be formed up in us to the glory of God. Mankind’s thinking or vain imaginations led to the destruction of the world by water the first time and it will lead to its destruction of the world the second time by fire. We must learn to control our thinking before a molehill turns into a mountain destroying all that we hold dear. I have preached for years that we must cast out unwanted thoughts immediately, within a millisecond, before they have a profound effect on us leading us to do things we should not do. Bad memories from as far back as childhood can come in like a flood causing us to question our abilities, experience regrets, and even allow hate to fester in our hearts. Dear children, we must learn how to control what we think about that can cause monumental emotional and psychological damage to our souls.

The Bible teaches us that the old life will pass away so that we can effectively grow up in Christ. Yet, many of God’s children are bound to the past unable to realize the beauty of their new life in Christ. They are unable to experience the bountiful life because they are still tied to the past. The key to escaping this bondage is to learn how to truly forgive others and forgive our past failures. When we do and practice the three principles of forgiveness then they will never return to our minds to haunt us, control our behavior, and cause us unsurmountable damage. Learn to cast out the unwanted thoughts, don’t discuss them with others, and don’t ever bring up these unwanted thoughts to dwell on, that question our abilities, and our unique value in the Kingdom. Dear children, when we control what we think about it will lead to a breath of fresh air allowing God to continue His spiritual growth in us to the glory of God. Our self-confidence is believing and trusting in God to make us into a beautiful new creation where old things truly pass away. We learn how to reject the false teachings from the world by casting out their psycho babel and only trust in God’s truth from the Holy Bible that gives us everything we need for life and godliness.

Finally, understand, dear children, that there are great teachings and beautiful history in the Old Testament that give God’s children in every age a glimpse at the future and their new life in the coming Messiah, but the New Testament embraces the present teachings of Jesus Christ to lead us in our spiritual growth through the indwelling Spirit. The New Testament was written specifically to the Christian community on how to overcome their present difficulties and allow the indwelling Spirit to do His job of reminding them of everything Christ taught them. Let me encourage you to deeply digest the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John to follow the life of Christ and His powerful teachings. Then, let me encourage you to read the entire letters of the inspired Apostles. Read each of the letters entirely in one setting hearing it as the original recipients received it. When you do then you will soon discover that you are on the path that leads to total transformation in Christ becoming all that God wants you to be. In conclusion, the Bible says, “Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect” (Matthew 5:48). Dear children, let us have self-confidence as we strive for perfection, daily.

Teach Us To Number Our Days

I have taught this truth from Scripture, to number our days, for many years now, oftentimes in funeral sermons and eulogies. God has taught humanity for many thousands of years that man typically has only seventy years unless he is totally blessed and lives into his eighties. We have all witnessed precious souls, like my younger brother, who only lived one week, and my blessed grandmother who lived well into her hundreds. We have no way of knowing just how long we will be given to live on this planet, so it is necessary to number our days making every day count. Although we could only trust in the providence of God for my younger brother, my blessed grandmother had learned well how to make the most of every day to the glory of God. Contrary to how old we are and the trials that we are currently facing, we can still learn together how to number our days by making every moment of every day count for the best. If we don’t then time will fly by as a watch in the night as if our time on earth never existed; a thousand years in your sight would be like yesterday when it is past (Psalms 90:4-6).

So, how do we number our days? A good starting place is to follow the teachings of God’s Holy Word in the Bible that says, “See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise, Redeeming the time, because the days are evil” (Ephesians 5:15-16). The day is made up of twenty-four hours or 1,440 minutes. Satan’s goal is to rob you of all your time; time that can never be replaced. With the advancement of technology this is being accomplished at an unprecedented and alarming rate. It has allowed humanity to be led into many senseless and meaningless activities, not necessarily good or bad, but meant only to rob you of your precious time allotted to you by God; time that cannot ever be replaced. The Bible tells us to redeem the time by buying it back, from Satan’s captivity. This is accomplished by walking circumspectly and not as fools. The fool follows the ways of the world allowing their time to be consumed with every novelty, every little bit of entertainment, every senseless conversation, and every meaningless activity. This is greatly accomplished on social media with their little “reels,” videos, and posts capturing the attention of the fallen world. Ask yourself, how much time you spend on social media, essentially wasting your time better spent doing the things of God, which we will speak of below.

Everything in the world is designed to rob you of your precious time, which can never be recovered. Television, streaming movies or videos, and the theater has tapped into a large amount of your time. Follow me for a moment. Even if it’s nothing necessarily evil it still robs you of your time. Think about that for a moment. We have been given only so much time on planet earth that will be eventually swept away as a flood or like grass that’s been cut down (Psalms 90:5-6). As children of God, we need to learn how to redeem all the precious time that God has given to us. The fool says in his heart there is no God (Psalms 14.1; 53:1) and embraces every perversion and ungodliness that consumes all of his time on planet Earth. As Christmas, we must walk circumspectly and not as fools who have openly and unashamedly rejected Christ as their Lord. When we do we will carefully examine everything we think and do in the fallen world remembering that Christ sees everything. We must ask, was Christ honored in what we just thought and spent our time doing? Did it help us to truly grow up spiritually? Did it truly love and bless others? Dear, children until we redeem the time by no longer following the world, then we can be assured that there will be no time left. That is exactly where most of the fallen world is today. They have no time left. Dear children, we must redeem the time by walking away from everything that is consuming our time.

When we number our days, we will be motivated to redeem the time and apply our hearts unto wisdom (Psalms 90:12). The Bible says, “If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him” (James 1:5). There is no greater need for wisdom than when we have come out from the world with a great deal of time redeemed. Satan will work overtime to trip you up and lead you back into the fallen world destined for hell and the horrific consequences of humanity’s sins. Satan and his powers of darkness will tell you immediately that you are bored, anxious, or getting depressed because you are no longer filling your time with what makes you happy or satisfied. He will go further and awaken the old sin nature creating very powerful desires in your mind and soul. He will not give up easily because he knows that the moment that you give all of your time to Jesus, he is done. This is exactly why Satan has led humanity to invent technology, movies, YouTube videos, and 24-hour news channels to consume all of your time. This is exactly why he has led humanity to create every form of salacious entertainment to arouse the old sin nature that can also consume all of your time.

When we come out from the world led by Satan to consume our time, then we ask God for wisdom in filling our time with what He wants to accomplish in our lives. Heavenly wisdom from the throne of grace will lead you, step by step, to the most glorious life this side of heaven. When you truly come out from the world led by the powers of darkness, then God will fill your time. Every moment will be filled with how to put on our new life in Christ, to become all that Christ wants us to be. The Spirit will fill your heart with self-giving, agape, love. You will no longer live for self, but you will discover the great joy of living for others. This living for others takes on a whole new dynamic that transcends faceless social media to real face-to-face relationships beginning with our family and close friends. It cherishes the time around the dinner table without cellphones and the blaring television. God’s heavenly wisdom will show us how to extend our self-giving love to our neighbors, workmates, and everyone else we encounter in the real world. This heavenly wisdom will open doors and give us an opportunity to share our testimony and the Gospel of Jesus Christ (See The Gospel Presentation below).

Dear children, we can no longer allow Satan and his powers of darkness to consume our precious time given to us by our almighty God.  Time is running out for the fallen world. Yet, God can extend our time on earth if we use every moment of our time to glorify Him. We glorify God when we allow the indwelling Spirit to direct our path in our love and service to others in the real world of face-to-face encounters. We glorify God when we allow the indwelling Spirit to grow us every day spiritually from one degree of glory to another. We glorify God by trusting in Him exclusively by rejecting all the foolishness in the fallen world. We glorify God by believing His truth that He alone has given us everything we need for life and godliness. Finally, we glorify God by standing firm in the Last Days and not being led astray by the great deception. Won’t you redeem your time today and number all of your days to the glory of God? In the beginning, it will be difficult, but God will give you grace to persevere to the end, enjoying every beautiful moment of time that God has so gloriously allotted to you. Amen

Watchman on the Wall

We cannot magically turn Sodom and Gomorrah into a holy nation by electing new leaders. Wake up, dear children. We are still on the same path. The election results have not changed any hearts, it has not drawn anyone closer to the Lord. It may have driven fear into the other side. It may have given you some temporary joy and peace that things might be better, but it will not change the direction of this nation headed to the abyss unless it truly repents. As a watchman on the wall, it is his job to warn the people that they are headed to certain destruction, that they are still headed toward Armageddon, and that they will reap the consequences of a perverted nation that has turned its back on God. Nothing has changed. Abortions are still legal in most states claiming that life after conception doesn’t exist up to a certain week or month. They still teach little children, without the parent’s consent, that they can choose their own gender. They still allow perversions to be flaunted in the streets of America while people’s hearts drift further and farther away from their Holy God. Nothing has changed nor will it change until people are led to repent and trust in God exclusively. The heart must be changed and that cannot be accomplished through a political process. There’s Power to Stand Firm

We are all facing unprecedented times with the next election in the United States looming closer and closer. There is a lot of apprehension as to which candidate will be elected and the formidable consequences facing all of humanity. Most Christians rely on whatever power they have to stand firm and not be led astray by the great deception. Unfortunately, many are relying on their own choices to determine their best course of action. The good news is that God has given us great power to stand firm on His truth alone and not be swayed by the world’s teaching, much of it manipulated by the powers of darkness under the cloak of religious morality. Yes, we all see the great daggers cast at the other political party; one claiming the other side is the “enemy within” essentially destroying everything Christ stands for and the other claiming the other side is on the dangerous path of “fascism.” Now, some on the right are going so far as claiming the other politician is the Antichrist as they fear the worsening depravity will bring us to the precipice of Armageddon. We must not be swayed by every political hyperbole or fine-sounding argument. Let’s examine everything with a sound mind. Last week we wrote about “Seeing Through A Glass Darkly” returning to the source and interpreting Scripture properly, today we will talk about the great power given to us to stand firm on the truth we have received.
