As A Christian Are We Growing Insensitive to Sin?

Most believers understand that sin is wrong. They know how important forgiveness is and the price Christ paid to give it. They also know the importance of repentance and dying to the old sin nature. However, living in a sin filled world where every segment of society is practicing their sin in the open daily from the highest to the lowest among us we are compelled to ask the question, “As a Christian are we growing insensitive to sin?” It was not that long ago as believers we would be appalled to witness some of the sin we see in our world today. Was the sin there all along or were we just blind to it? Or was everything done in secret behind closed doors? Or have we as a world just gotten more-evil? Perhaps we can answer all these in the affirmative. Have we grown insensitive to sin to the point where we can just overlook it and not be too bothered by it? Insensitive to the point where we can gaze upon it, we can watch it, we can read about it and we can even share it with others. As we shall see this did not happen overnight. It took a very long time for people, especially believers, to feel comfortable enough to look at the sin and have no problem sharing it with others.

So, what does the Bible say about the sin all around us. “But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation; Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy (I Peter 1:15-16). We are called to be holy, which means we must separate ourselves from all manner of sin. Before we can separate ourselves from sin we must first recognize it as sin. Oh, how we have fallen when we no longer recognize sin as sin. When did we as Christians stop recognizing pride and lying as sin? When did we as Christians stop recognizing that vulgarity, sexual immorality and adultery as sin? Have we grown that insensitive to sin that we no longer call it sin? Perhaps we should ask what’s causing the insensitivity. Could it be that in our eagerness to get away from one set of sins like homosexuality and abortion that we have run headlong into the acceptance of other sins, such as pride, lying, vulgarity, sexual immorality, and adultery? Can we safely say that one set of sins are better than another? We must agree that all sin is sin, although our Father in heaven tends to take a dimmer view of lying and pride. Perhaps because Satan is known as the father of lies and his pride led him to rebel against a most Holy God.

Perhaps another reason for becoming insensitive to these sins in question is that somehow the old sin nature can accept these better than the unpopular sins of the religious community such as: abortion, homosexuality, the acceptance of other world religions and cruelty to children or animals. Whatever the reason for our insensitivity we must open our eyes and understand that all sin is sin. It should make little difference to the believers if it’s someone of low position or a higher position, if the sin is present we must call it out. If it’s lying, then they must no longer lie and repent of all previous lies by confessing them to God and to one another. (See James 5:16) If it’s pride, then they must stop all their boasting and bragging about their selves and in humility consider others better themselves. In the same way all vulgarity, sexual immorality and adultery must stop with repentance, making a confession to God and to one another of their previous sins. For those in the highest level of authority should they not repent and confess these sins publicly to receive not only the forgiveness from God, but from the people. If not, then how can God fearing Christians continue to support such a person or persons. Have we become that insensitive to sin that we now turn a blind eye to it?

Perhaps another reason for becoming insensitive to sin is that one becomes comfortable with it. It is always easier to do it the second time. Either committing the sin or just participating in it. To listen to the boasting over and over again or the lying one begins to accept it as the new normal. The same is true in listening to vulgarity or being around a hot-tempered person. After awhile it becomes easier to accept. Of course, the same is true in committing the sin. Every time one commits a sin it becomes easier. In the same way, every time one participates in a sin, such as, watching it on TV or on Social Media, it becomes easier. Step by step one becomes more insensitive to the sin. It no longer shocks. It no longer feels repulsive. One no longer feels the conviction of the Holy Spirit thus grieving Him (See Ephesians 4:30). In time after seeing the sin time and again one become insensitive to the sin. Once that happens then it becomes easier to move from being just a participant in watching the sin committed to committing the sin ourselves. As one loses their insensitivity to the sin it becomes an acceptable habit. Indeed, sin is a very slippery slope.

Now, let’s test ourselves and see just how insensitive we have become to sin. Are you shocked, and feel repulsive when you see someone on Social Media beat a defenseless dog, or see a half-naked woman leading the music service in church, or see young boys beating up another boy in the school yard? If you say no, then you have grown insensitive to sin. How do you feel when someone post on Social Media a pastor touching the genitals of a woman, or someone is using vulgar language to express their point, or someone is mistreating their child in the market? If you say that you feel nothing, then you have grown insensitive to sin. How do you feel when you see a man half-nude dressed as a woman? If you feel nothing, then you have grown insensitive to sin. To be holy we don’t comment on those post but turn away immediately. As holy children we must not even gaze upon the sin. How do you feel when countless women say that they had an adulterous affair with the President of the United States of America? Truly now, can they all be lying? Yes, this all supposedly happened before he became President but the lying is happening now. The pride and boasting is happening now as President. As believers have we grown that insensitive to sin or are we simply ignoring it because we like his policies. Because we like how he is standing in the gap for the Christian community. This list could go on, but you get the point. Let’s make sure as believers who have been called to be holy that we have not lost our sensitivity to sin.

Resist the Lies of The Devil by Walking in The Promises

The lies of the devil have caused most of the problems in our world today. It’s not just the lies, but the fact that so many of the world’s population actually believe the lies. Have you ever wondered why there is such an increase in emotional and psychological problems? It’s reported in 2014 that 91% of the population would seek a mental health professional if they had a problem. Have you ever wondered why there is such an increase in drug addiction? It’s also reported that in the same year that 8 million Americans battled both drug addiction and a mental health disorder concurrently. Perhaps the most alarming statistic to me was the increased numbers in suicide globally. According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Worldwide, 800,000 people die due to suicide every year, according to the World Health Organization. The shocking fact is the Church is not exempt from these problems. Psychological problems, drug addiction and suicide are caused primarily from listening to the lies of the devil. So, follow me along to discover how to “Resist the lies of the devil by walking in the promises.”

Before we look at the promises let’s look at the lies of the devil that’s causing so much destruction to humanity. The first lie is that the blight of sin can never be truly erased. All the horrible things you ever did in the past or were a witness too will be with you for the rest of your life. No matter how hard you try to move on from the old life it will always be there to pull you down causing you untold heartache. This lie has led many into a life of drug addiction, endless counseling or worst yet suicide. The second lie is likened unto it by telling the population that God does not have the answers to your problems because the Bible is not sufficient for the modern age. They say, “A modern age needs modern solutions, discounting the fact that Jesus Christ is the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end.” As our Creator He knows more about us and our needs than anyone else. Finally, the third big lie of the devil is that humans are weak and sinful, so it would be impossible for them to participate in the divine nature. This idea would be totally foreign to a godless world allowing this lie to take root among the pagans. These three big lies along with many others from the devil has kept the biggest part of humanity in bondage. Furthermore, this bondage is increasing daily. Of course, we should know that Satan’s desire is to enslave the entire human race before Christ returns. Are you a prisoner or have you been set free?

If you want to break free from this bondage, then we need to learn how to walk in God’s great and precious promises. The first is found in the Bible, let’s read it together II Corinthians 5:17, “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.” Of course, this promise is only available to the new creation. The person who has faith believing that God will make him or her into a new creation. Logic dictates that a new creation cannot have any of the old creature still existing in the new. Although God will take the rest of your life here on the planet growing you from one degree of glory to another, it does not negate the fact that the old life, past tense, has passed away. Through faith you have been forgiven and your past sins are never to be remembered again by God. This new creation has the heart of stone replaced with a heart of flesh where everything changes (See Ezekiel 11:19). Your likes and dislikes change. You are changed from the inside out. Quite differently from the world that just wants to change the outside through behavior modification. Your whole attitude about life and others completely change. If it were not for your familiar face even your closest friends would no longer recognize you. Unless you plan on calling God a liar then we must believe this truth and walk in this promise. We must resist the lies of the devil.

Remember, the second lie of the devil is that God does not give us everything we need for life and godliness. So, what is God’s promise? Let’s look in the Bible together, “According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue” (II Peter 2:3). Through the knowledge of Him. The more we learn about Christ through the indwelling Spirit the more we learn how to live a righteous life in an unrighteous world. In fact, it is the indwelling Spirit’s job to lead us into all truth (See John 16:13). To bring to our memories all that Christ taught when He walked upon the earth. Of course, this promise will do you little good if you don’t believe it. On the other hand, if you do believe in this promise then you will spend all the time necessary researching the Bible for the answers that’s applicable for every age, including the modern age. You will spend enough time listening to the Spirit allowing Him to either lead you to the appropriate Scripture or speaking directly to your spirit, keeping in mind that His words will never nullify the Bible. Finally, you will receive counsel from other believers who are walking in this promise. Unless you plan on calling God a liar then we must believe this truth and walk in this promise. We must resist the lies of the devil.

Remember, the third lie of the devil says that as weak sinful human beings we are unable to participate in the divine nature. So, what is God’s promise. Let’s look at the sufficient Word of God, the Bible. “Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust” (II Peter 1:4). By these promises; believing in and walking in them will allow us to actually participate in the divine nature. Praise God. By the time we get to walking in the divine nature our past life is just a distant memory. You have been growing spiritually by putting off the old life and putting on the new life of righteousness becoming every day more like your risen LORD Jesus Christ. You have been walking in the Spirit moving you further away from the world’s counsel and closer to only listening to God’s Holy Counsel. Now you are truly seeing things differently as you begin to enjoy the tremendous blessing of participating in the divine nature. To do so changes your priorities, changes your longings and your desires. You won’t remember the exact time it happened, but you know that your heart is so much more tender than ever before. You feel as though you can reach up and touch the face of God. Unless you plan on calling God a liar then we must believe this truth and walk in this promise. We must resist the lies of the devil.

When we believe and walk in the promises of God then you will no longer suffer as the world suffers. You will no longer be held in bondage to your old sin nature but set free to live a new life in Christ. You will with God’s help and the temporary help of a qualified medical professional be able to stop your addiction. All your emotional and psychological problems of your old life will eventually fade away with the help of the indwelling Spirit and other qualified believers that are walking in the same promises. All your previous thoughts of suicide will also pass away as you walk in the new life learning how to turn everything over to the risen Lord and learning how to listen to His counsel alone. The Church should be the lighthouse to a lost and dying world by giving them hope of a new life free from all the pain and suffering of the past life. Dear friend, it’s not too late to pass this message onto your family and friends. It’s not too late to ask Jesus Christ to come into their lives, forgiving them of their past sins and making them into a new creation where they too can participate in the divine nature. Stop listening to the lies of the devil and start by listening to God’s truth.

Three Great Powers to Overcome the Wiles of the Devil

The lukewarm church and the religious cult are both powerless to stand against the wiles of the devil. Both are missing the power of love, the power of forgiveness and the power of the resurrection – three great powers to overcome the wiles of the devil. Satan and the unclean spirits (or fallen angels) are incapable of overcoming these three great powers made manifest in God’s true children, the faithful remnant. This is good news for the end time saints who have witnessed the influence of Satan to capture so many in our day. Addiction to prescription drugs, both pain killers and psychiatric, have decimated the population leaving most under the control of demonic influence and the power of sin. A lukewarm church has done little in equipping the believers to stand against the wiles of the devil. The religious cult has robbed the believers of their power to stand against the trickery and deception of Satan. Psychiatry and the medical professionals are throwing different labels on people at the speed of light to explain their bizarre and unbelievable behavior. The world, the lukewarm church, and the religious cults are powerless to stand against the wiles of the devil. On the other hand, true believers have that power.
