Revealing the Man of Lawlessness

Revealing the Man of Lawlessness

All through history we have seen evil, sin, and lawlessness. Yet, in these last days lawlessness will increase to such a degree that the man of lawlessness will be accepted and worshiped by every nation. The old restraint spoken of in the Bible will be removed so that the man of lawlessness can be revealed. (See II Thessalonians 2:5-6) Although the interpretation of who is doing the restraining has been hotly debated for years, there is a consensus among most scholars that the legal system of the Roman Empire held gross lawlessness in check, at least the outward forms. Even the Apostle Paul saw the Roman Empire as being established by God to punish the evil doer and reward the good.(See Romans 13:1) In every world empire since the fall of the Roman Empire outward acts of lawlessness have been punished to keep man from destroying himself.  In later centuries when evil men twisted God’s law or rejected it altogether they were led to enslave men of color, commit mass executions, or seek annihilation of an entire race. Yet, in every case the world’s consciousness has led man to right these wrongs by adhering to their legal system and bringing forth a swift and powerful judgment on the evil.

On the other hand, many of the inward acts of lawlessness, those done behind closed doors, such as homosexuality, orgies, and other sexual perversions  was tolerated in the Roman Empire as long as you were very discrete. Could this be the secret power of lawlessness referred to by the Apostle Paul? (See II Thessalonians 2:7) Although most men recognized these acts as evil, it was not until the missionary effort of the Apostle Paul, at the height of the evangelistic effort to share the Gospel, before these inward acts were seen as lawlessness and sin against a holy God. But now things have changed the restraint against evil is finally being removed. The Western world and this country in particular have completely rejected God’s law. Even Christians are afraid to quote it out of fear of offending someone, judging them, or not showing Christian love. Many contemporary churchmen have refused to use the word “sin” in their sermons denying the very thing that Christ came to save us from – the power of sin. In the span of a decade the believing world has moved from rejecting this evil of homosexuality to tolerating it. President Barack Obama and twenty powerful companies, such as Facebook, Google, and Microsoft have moved this country to tolerate this evil of homosexuality, eventually leading the Supreme Court to legalize same sex marriage in this country along with many other countries in the West.

Clearly to legalize same sex marriage is the same as legalizing homosexuality which is a sin against God. “Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural ones. In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed indecent acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their perversion” (Romans 1:26-27). If the legal system is the restraint that holds back the man of lawlessness then how is it removed so that it’s no longer effective in restraining evil? If something is legal then it’s very difficult to tell someone that they are breaking the law. And if you convince the world that man’s law supersedes God’s law then you have effectively removed all restraints allowing lawlessness to reign. We have already seen this in other areas. The world says that abortion is legal, but God calls it murder. The world says cohabitation and pre-marital sex is legal, but God calls it sexual immorality. To allow our legal system to change God’s law by legalizing what He calls an abomination (See Leviticus 18:22, 20:13) clearly removes the restraints and invites the man of lawlessness to reign. It invites him to rule over your life by dictating his new laws and punishing those who refuse to obey.

Have we not seen all this and more through the current administration of President Barrack Hussein Obama? Has He not stood against everything the Christian believes by standing behind the evil of same-sex marriage, abortion, the selling of fetal parts of aborted babies? Furthermore, we have not seen him stand against sex changes of prison inmates paid for by the tax payer of California, nor have we seen him stand against the perversion of becoming transgender and requiring that, once accomplished, they can enter the public restroom of their choice. Nor have we seen Barrack Obama stand against the legalization of marijuana that has known permanent side effects. Nor have we seen him stand against rioting and lawlessness of the black community, instead of bringing calm, he incites more division. Nor have we seen him stand against the prolific increase in psychiatric drugs among the world’s population that have created a staggering statistic of suicides and mass murder. On the other hand we have seen him give the court more power to require psychological evaluations and even incarceration of those deemed necessary by the professionals of psychiatry. Clearly, every day Mr. Obama is acting more like the dreaded Man of Lawlessness – who has rejected the law of God for the law of man.

To remove the law of God and legalize sin makes our Gospel ineffective in a world that desperately needs it. Friends, we must bravely re-enter the world proclaiming God’s truth to a dying world. Only God’s beautiful law written on our hearts by the Holy Spirit will allow us to live the life that we have been created to live. If we don’t redeem the hour all will be lost. We must look beyond the social media to removing our children from a humanistic public school system. We must confront the sinner by leading him to repentance and acceptance of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. I challenge every Christian to march on Washington demanding in a move of solidarity to keep the Supreme Court of the United States from overturning God’s law for the law of man. I challenge you to discover the 127 commands of the New Testament and hide them in your heart so that you will not sin against a righteous God. In your discovery you will soon believe that each command is godly instruction on how to love God and your fellow man. God help us to stand firm in these dark days.
