Contrary to public opinion, God speaks to me and I am not insane. In fact, God has been speaking to humans since the time of creation. The first incident was recorded in the Old Testament of the Bible when God spoke to man. The Bible says, “And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die” (Genesis 2:16-17). Man and woman were both created perfectly after the image of God. Their bodies were designed to live hundreds and hundreds of years. The Bible says that Methuselah lived to be 969 years old. Only modern man with his so called higher learning tries to explain this away in his theory of evolution. Their cognitive ability was also amazing in that man was able to name all the living creatures in the world and determined that none were considered as a suitable help mate. The assumption is that he could also recall their names. The Bible says, “And Adam gave names to all cattle, and to the fowl of the air, and to every beast of the field; but for Adam there was not found an help meet for him” (Genesis 2:20).
They also had the great ability to keep and maintain, no doubt a most beautiful garden in all creation, unlike the humans we hear about that evolved from the stone age man. The Bible says, “And the LORD God took the man and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it” (Genesis 2:15). They were also made in God’s image, no doubt very intelligent, which required both speaking and listening. The Bible records one of many conversations between God and man, one in particular is of great interest because it shows personality and depth of conversation. Let’s listen in, the Bible says, “And the LORD God called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where art thou? And he said, I heard thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself. And he said, Who told thee that thou wast naked? Hast thou eaten of the tree, whereof I commanded thee that thou shouldest not eat?” (Genesis 3:9-11). Of course, the conversation continued for some time with man first blaming the woman who God had given to him, so in essence blaming God as well. Then the woman chimed in by blaming the serpent (or the old devil), where at that point God communicated the punishment for both the man and the woman and the serpent. Don’t think for a moment that man and woman created by God can’t hear His words.
This two-way communication continued for thousands of years with select individuals, prophets and priests. the Bible says, “Thus saith the Lord” became a common refrain in the Old Testament spoken by select men who spoke for God as His mouth piece. From Moses and Aaron down through the centuries to include Kings, Priests and Prophets who all spoke to others what they had heard directly from God. Then with the coming of Jesus Christ and the offer of salvation for all of humanity communication between God and man became possible for any who had faith. The Bible says, “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me” (John 10:27). A whole book could be written just on this one verse. But suffice it to say that true followers of Christ can discern if the voice they hear is from Christ or their own vain imagination. As true believers we can easily discern if the voice is from God or from the devil. The point is we can and do hear the voice of our Great Shepherd and it’s quite appalling that someone would question the mental stability of millions of people and if all the people were added throughout the centuries the number would be in the billions.
With the coming of the Holy Spirit communication with God became even more intimate. The voice of God came quietly through the Spirit along with a warming in the heart or what we as Christians consider as the touch of God. We all desire that divine touch that’s sweeter than the honeycomb that stops time itself allowing us to momentarily bask in the divine light of His glory. The touch that brings back a faint memory or a word from Holy Scripture allowing us to experience an incredibly unexpected union with God. The divine touch that allows us to arise above our pain and suffering as if they never existed feeling a great inner strength of renewal. Praise God for His divine touch that often accompanies the voice of God. To say that we cannot hear the voice of God is beyond reproach especially if we are labeled as insane for hearing God. One of the wonders of coming to Christ in faith is hearing the word of God and feeling His divine touch. As a pastor for many years I have personally witnessed this when people surrendered their lives to God and His authority over them. When they recounted that God was indeed speaking to their heart. Furthermore, every true preacher only preaches and teaches what they receive directly from God.
So, to have an individual in our day claiming that a person hearing Jesus or God to be insane is not only sad but shows themselves to be an unbeliever resting under the wrath of God and eternal damnation. To claim that God does not communicate with His beloved creation is to put them in league with the devil. So, I conclude by asking every person reading or listening to this article as a Tribulation Radio Show to pray earnestly for this un-named individual that God will open their eyes and also their ears to His divine voice. Let them apologize to God publicly and let the children rejoice. Join me in a me-too movement to let our voices be heard to a deaf and dying world that we do hear God and we are not insane. Amen
In conclusion, it only takes one person making this outrageous statement that a Christian claiming to hear God is insane. This may very well open Pandora’s Box for others to make similar statements leading a national movement against Christianity. A movement that in time will require every Christian to undergo psychological counseling and the administering of psychiatric drugs to cure their supposed mental illness. Therefore, I implore Christians everywhere to join me in a new movement of proclaiming to the world that God speaks to me TOO and I am not insane. Say it wherever you go, God speaks to me too and I am not insane. Post it on Social Media, put on your signs, write it in your emails, and speak to your friends … let the world know that God speaks to ME TOO and I am not insane.
