Armageddon and God's Wrath

Armageddon and God’s Wrath

Armageddon is no doubt one of the most popular subjects among modern day prophets churning out different prophecies at the speed of light creating ever more confusion among God’s blessed children. I am also including the topic of God’s wrath along with our discussion of Armageddon to help us truly understand God’s dealing with fallen humanity and the war that will end all wars. To fully understand the wrath of God we must allow all of God’s Word to speak to us. There is a wrath that is being poured out on all ungodliness since the First Century. This wrath of God is different in nature in that God simply allows an individual to sink deeper and deeper into the consequences of their own sin. This wrath is explained in detail in Romans 1:18-32 (you may want to take a moment and read these verses before proceeding). We see God letting mankind go three specific times to illustrate that at each point, as man’s depravity increases, his consequences are also increased significantly. God gave them up to their sinful desires; He gave them over to their shameful lusts; and, He gave them over to a depraved mind. As children of light we are not surprised that many countries in the world have now approved same sex marriages sinking deeper into shameful lust and a depraved mind. We should not be surprised at the increase in all manner of wickedness which is driving more people to secular counseling and psychiatric drugs to help them cope with the consequences of their sin.

Having said that we must conclude that if God allows mankind to slip deeper and deeper into the consequences of his sin, which He does, then we must also conclude that more the world turns away from God the larger the effect it has upon the world as whole. As evil increases around the world the more God’s wrath intensifies. This should prove to be a wakeup call as to why the powers are unleashed against the planet. It should open our eyes to why there is an increase in the number of volcanoes, earthquakes, tornadoes, violent hurricanes, and worsening heat waves around the world. Those in power during the Paris climate talks cannot blame global warming, but need to accept the fact that God is pouring out His wrath on an unrepentant world. If we just take a cursory look at the final bowels of God’s wrath we see first noisome and grievous sores falling upon humanity witnessed by the many incurable plagues and diseases in our century alone. We have seen the great stress on our oceans were eventually every living thing in the sea will die as witnessed by an untold number of sea creatures washing up on sea shores around the globe. We have seen global pollution of rivers and fresh drinking water causing untold diseases and death to both man and beast. We have seen men scorched by the sun as witnessed by one heat wave after another causing health problems and death on a global basis. It was just reported that this intense heat will reach inhabitable levels in the Persian Gulf in the near future. As children of light we should not be surprised. Rather we must continue to stand firm and proclaim to a fallen world that their multitude of sins are having devastating consequences on our world.

If that were not enough as the kingdom of the beast is plunged into darkness there is an increase in lawlessness and unrestrained anarchy as witnessed here in America. Every day the local news is reporting lawlessness to such a degree one wonders if anything else is happening in this country. They report mass murders where deranged and heartless brutes walk into university class rooms, public schools, theaters, public gatherings, a Navy shipyard, an army installation, a Jewish center, and now a Planned Parenthood building killing and wounding innocent people. They report rioting in one city after another with police officers being charged with horrendous crimes against the people while good and decent police officers are being killed in cold blood. As a war is raging on the streets of America they report corruption and immorality at the highest levels of our government and even among those who seek re-election to public office. Add to this the recent increase of home invasions, murders, robberies, violence against women and children, drug addictions, and suicides one gets a clear picture of a nation plunged into utter darkness.

The Bible makes it abundantly clear that this Day should not surprise you like a thief who typically operates in the night. (See I Thessalonians 5:4) We will not be surprised because we are all sons of the light and sons of the day. As the world is saying, “peace and safety” we know that the day of God’s wrath is coming. Because we are children of the light we know that the fallen world is on a collision course with destiny because they have turned their back on God and no longer trust in Him exclusively. As children of light we know that preparation is essential and staying in the light is critical if we don’t want to be surprised. Clearly we need to “… be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for a helmet, the hope of salvation. For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ” (I Thessalonians 5:8-9). So if we are not appointed to suffer wrath as children of light then we must conclude that we are shielded from His wrath that’s only reserved for the ungodly. To be shielded from God’s wrath although a welcome relief, we must remember that Christians still go through trials and tribulations for the strengthening of our faith. “and that we must through much tribulation enter into the kingdom of God” (Acts 14:22). Friend, there is a big difference between the wrath of God and trials and tribulations appointed for those in Christ Jesus.

“And the sixth angel poured out his vial upon the great river Euphrates and the water thereof was dried up, that the way of the kings of the east might be prepared” (Revelation 16:12). Who these kings are from the east and which countries they represent have been a matter of great interest and the spawning of a great many prophecies. At the present it is clear that Iran, and portions of Iraq, Turkey, and Syria are the countries beyond the river Euphrates. If we went further east it could also include Afghanistan, Pakistan, India, and China. Furthermore, if we went due north it could also include present day Russia. In the last days something will happen to allow some or all these countries to prepare for war against the Beast and his false prophet in the West. Let’s be very clear, only after the Beast and false prophet has been recognized by God’s faithful remnant and a relentless war with the saints established will the beast unite the entire world together in a battle against the kings of the east or what is better known as the battle of Armageddon. (See Revelation 13:7) If we allow the Bible to speak for itself it will demonstrate the great power of persuasion the Beast and the false prophet has over the entire world. The Bible says, “And I saw three unclean spirits like frogs come out of the mouth the dragon, and out of the mouth of the Beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet for they are spirits of devils, working miracles, which go forth unto the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty” (Revelation 16:14, 15).

So why is this one decisive battle between the east and the west called “that great day of God Almighty?” Because with it comes the end of all things, neither the east nor the west becomes victorious in this battle for only the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords will be victorious on that great day of God Almighty. Jesus Christ says, “Behold, I come as a thief, blessed is he that watcheth, and keepeth his garments, lest he walk naked, and they see his shame” (Revelation 16:15).  As we wait for the battle of Armageddon knowing it will be the war that ends all wars, it is also the glorious coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. The Bible says, “And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war. His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns, and he had a name written, that no man knew, but he himself. And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood; and His name is called The Word of God. And the armies which were in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean. And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations; and he shall rule them with a rod of iron; and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of almighty God. And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, King of Kings, and Lord of Lords” (Revelation 19:11-16).  Amen! Come, Lord Jesus!
