A World Without Christ

A World Without Christ

What would it look like, a world without Christ? For the transformed believer in Christ it may seem too horrible to imagine. Yet, in the midst of the encroaching darkness we must not only imagine such a scenario we must contemplate its coming reality. In a dark world without Christ it would be totally left alone. Without Christ all religious instruction from previous ages and the sacred writings of the New Testament would be meaningless. Very few would understand the depth of its teachings or how to live by its standards. Essentially, the world is left alone in its fight against gross immorality, wars, domestic abuse, and emotional problems plaguing the planet. Many in the world would still hang on to their old superstitions, gods and goddess, while the so called enlightened ones would develop their own strategies and humanistic beliefs to deal with the worlds problems. Counseling centers and drug stores would more than dot the landscape in a worldwide quest to reign in fallen humanity. The world would be no better off as horrific crimes would increase in number and magnitude. Real lasting peace among the nations would slip away to continued regional and global conflicts with ever increasing terrorism destroying life and property. Yet, those of the Star Trek generation still hold onto their hope of a humanistic world of peace and tranquility without Christ.

Old Christian churches may still be packed with those who say they believe, but are blinded by the god of this world. (See II Corinthians 4:4) They no longer see the glorious gospel with its promise to transform their miserable lives into new creations. They too have followed the world in its attempt to change the human spirit through their godless counseling and use of psychotropic drugs. This is a world without Christ! In the midst of the rebellion there are few pockets of true light flickering in a world of encroaching darkness. Will this faithful remnant ever make a difference? Can they become bright shining lights in a dark world? The Bible answers with an affirmative yes. “For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light” (Ephesians 5:8). Take a deep breath! Yes, you can live as children of light in a very dark world. A world in many respects, as we have already seen, is a world without Christ. We are the ones who believe wholeheartedly that God has made us into a new creation where everything is new and behold old things are passing away. We are the ones who have learned well how to put off the old life and put on the new. We are the ones, “who with unveiled faces all reflect the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his likeness with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit” (II Corinthians 3:18). We know that, “the fruit of light consists in all goodness, righteousness and truth and [are those who] find out what pleases the Lord” (Ephesians 5:9-10).

Clearly we know what pleases the Lord: “Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them” (Ephesians 5:11). So the question is how do we expose them? The first part of the question has already been answered: “Have nothing to with the fruitless deeds of darkness.” A world without Christ can never produce fruit from their many deeds. All of their counsel, all of their teachings, and all of their drugs will never produce a changed heart. They will never quell immorality. They will never bring forth lasting peace in the family or amongst the nations. All of their deeds are fruitless. Therefore, as children of light we must resist their counsel, shun their teaching, and reject their psychotropic drugs. This will be difficult in the days ahead, because with the new heath care measure doctors will be required to send you to the world’s counselors if they cannot pinpoint your physical ailment. There is no escaping for all of your medical records will be in a central data base to be accessed by the courts, medical doctors, and the professionals of psychology. The ruling class is obsessed with changing humanity into the perfect utopia without God’s help. We must expose them for they are bent on leading the whole world to hell to please the god of this age.

It may appear to be rather negative to expose the world, but there is a positive side. The Bible also says, “But all things that are reproved are made manifest by the light: for whatsoever doth make manifest is light” (Ephesians 5:13 KJV). Therefore, we must let our light shine brightly by allowing the Holy Spirit to produce the fruit of “love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control” in our lives for all to see. Then we must proclaim with a loud voice that Christ alone has changed our hearts without their godless help. Will you not let your light shine in a dark world? Begin with love for all and rejoicing always. Continue with the peace of God in your heart, patience in your stride, and kindness in your attitude. End with goodness in your nature, faithfulness to God alone, then gentleness and self-control. Clearly people, one by one, will be transformed by the light. People will want to know why you are so happy in the Lord; why you are not burdened by life’s problems; and, why you have no need for the world’s counselors. The world will want to know what makes you so different and then you will be happy to tell them that Christ is in you, the hope of glory. Dear friends, it is time to wake up and be children of light in a world of encroaching darkness.
