Enjoy the Moment
It is said that Satan will rob you of your joy. He will attempt to flood your mind with doubt and worry. His flaming arrows will extinguish your faith and rob you of one of the greatest gifts that God has given us through His Son – joy – the joy of our salvation! Dear friend the one thing that set the early Christians apart from the rest of the world was their incredible joy. Unfortunately many Christians today do not experience nor demonstrate that joy for the world to see. They, like the world, are overly concerned about tomorrow. They worry about the future or live in the past. They are never satisfied with what God has given them for today but are concerned about how things should be better. Even when they have the world’s goods they worry that they still do not have enough or what they have might be taken away. Then there are others who live in the past always thinking that things were better in the good old days. They are convinced that things can never be that good again and they enter the deep dark caverns of spiritual depression.
But that is not the way it is supposed to be! Christ has given us a living hope that things will always get better day by day. He said, “Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” (Mt. 6:34) Then the Apostle Paul said, “Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!” (Phil. 4:4 italics are mine) What does this mean? We never worry about tomorrow and we always rejoice in the Lord! The secret to non-worry is contentment and the secret to contentment is thankfulness in all things. Friend, look around and see what the Lord has given you. Have they not been given for your enjoyment which leads you to give thanks to God? Every precious moment that God has given to us on this earth should be enjoyed. It begins by rejoicing in our salvation! He has given us a new and living way that transforms the old life of anxiety, stress, and guilt for a life of hope, peace and forgiveness. It continues by discovering the indescribable joy of giving ourselves to others through the power of His love. It concludes by redeeming the time – realizing that every moment of every day is precious unto the Lord.
Friends, take time to build new relationships. Get beyond the small talk or the negative talk about others. Go deep into your relationships by expressing God’s love. Take time to listen – really listen to their hurts, their regrets and their needs. Speak the truth in love and then take time to allow God’s love to flow through them back to you. Build relationships not only with your neighbor but with God’s beautiful creation. Turn off the television, the radio, escape from your cubicle and open the door to God’s beautiful creation. Take time to enjoy the gentle breeze, the fragrance of a unfolding flower, the melody of the song birds, and the warmth of the sun. Take time to ponder the mysteries of the universe, your great salvation, and your unique place in God’s created order. Remember, the joy of the Lord is your strength. The strength to help you face every day with an incredible joy in your heart.
