Attitude of Prayer

holy_spirit1-768162Prayer is your life line to God. You can no more survive the Christian life without prayer as you can survive the natural life without food and water. Where nourishment only needs to be taken three or four times a day prayer is a never ending exercise returned to time and again throughout the day and into the night. Prayer is speaking to God and then taking time to listen. It’s a casual conversation most often spoken with only a few words at a time in an attitude of prayer. You can actually pray silently while studying the Bible, doing your daily work, or carrying on another conversation. You should always pray before making any decision, when you need God’s assistance, when resisting temptation and when struggling with the Devil.

This attitude of prayer brings God into every area of your life, in both the good times and the bad, in times of great joy and in times of deep sorrow. To keep these lines of communication open is your safeguard which is able to keep you from making the wrong choices and stumbling. This attitude of prayer surpasses the formal prayers often times made to be seen by others. It’s better for you to close your eyes for a brief moment in a true attitude of silent prayer than to make a show of spoken prayer in public to be noticed by others. Praying three or four times a day like the heathen religions will inflate your spiritual pride and rob you of a greater blessing. The blessing is staying in the presence of God through an attitude of prayer.

True prayer is humbling yourself before God desiring to speak to the One you love. It’s coming into God’s holy presence with the hope of hearing Him, but with the assurance of knowing that you have been in His presence. A true attitude of prayer is always done in faith, believing that God is there listening to your request. It’s believing that His desire is to love and give you what’s needed for your spiritual growth. A true attitude of prayer always has praise on your lips for the One you love. Throughout the day there are many opportunities to praise God for His miracles, His intervention, His love, and His providential care for you. Too much prayer today is cold, empty and formal, which does you no good. Let me encourage you to continue in an attitude prayer praying on every occasion.
